The ground floor can be a storage, with concrete or metal materials that handle water well. Renovating existing buildings? Think about lifting the structure onto a higher foundation or installing flood barriers. Sealing walls with waterproof coatings and moving electrical systems higher up are also key. Inside, use water-resistant materials for floors and walls. Landscaping plays a role too. Slopes and drainage systems around the building help divert water, while rain gardens and permeable pavements absorb excess water. These designs not only protect our homes, schools and hospitals in rural or urban areas but also make them resilient and sustainable. It's about blending safety with style, ensuring spaces stay dry and functional, no matter the weather.
