E-TAKA .E-STANDS FOR ELECTRONICS , TAKA IS A SWAHILI NAME THAT MEANS WASTE IN ENGLISH. BUT ALSO E-STANDS FOR ENERGY.ENERGY THAT IS GENERATED FROM RECYCLING THE ELECTRONIC WASTE . THIS VENTURE WAS STARTED BY TIMOTHY IVUSAH A RESIDENT OF EASTLANDS ,NAIROBI

Growing up in the eastlands part of Nairobi (Kenya)is not easy, mostly in dandora where all the waste collected around Nairobi CBD and its' outskirts is dumped.Personally I've grown up witnessing adults and kids who work as casuals around the Dandora dump suffer from respiratory diseases with difficulty in breathing and some succumbing to death. And therefore I decided to at least try coming up with an idea that might help mitigate the spread of the risk but at the same time acting as an income generating stream.There are several community based organisations that deal with Bio,Non-Bio & Medical Waste none focuses with the Electronic waste that we interact with on the daily.Not so many people can understand the extent to which the e-waste could harm them and also alter the soil pH thereby causing soil infertility and thus food insecurity.Therefore E-taka in the meantime moves around the community creating awareness on the subject matter and trying to seek a more viable solution.

As E-taka we are trying as much as possible to help locate these dumping areas where the electronics i.e Fridges,Used Mobile phones e.t.c are dumped within my local community and holding them at bay acting as middlemen as we wait to move them to the industrial area for segregation, crushing and moulding the waste into finer particles that can later be sent back to the manufacturer. Also we're sensitising the individuals and the community at large to try as much and learn proper disposal techniques that we provide inorder to create a habit of not purchasing /upgrading a newer version of the electronic unless there is a dire need or gifting the used and old electronic to another person (opportunity for re-use)or a gift shop ignorer to reduce the exposure

Safer and Cleaner Environment -When E-waste Is recycled in a proper and civilised manner it maximises the benefits thus minimising the harm that can/could be caused by improper recycling practices . And this becomes a win win to everyone in the community since the air would no longer be contaminated by the smoke emitted by the burning of the waste and also there will be increased soil fertility since the elements that would interfere are cupped. Waste to Energy/Energy to Waste -the process of generating energy in the form of electricity from waste reduction/treatment and using the same waste as the primal element . Employment Opportunity -With the rising levels of formal unemployment many youths have opted into entrepreneurship and better yet these opportunities are not climate related , consider the climate crisis Africa is experiencing.And so apart from finding an Income Generating Activity that earns you a continuous income , you are also saving the planet.

The Main Target Beneficiary is the Local Community(Which includes the Mothers & Kids-Mothers play a part mostly since they cook for their families using electronics, preserve food using who are the Primal Party that is greatly and indirectly affected by the Improper disposal of the Electronic waste. Local industries , governing authorities, the general public and private sectors who in one way or the other contribute towards polluting the environment.

One of the members we are in partnership with is an IT specialist whose work is majorly grounded IoT & computing and also he is a co-founder of an IT solutions Firm. The other one is a citizen journalist, activist,and a community organiser he is a founder of one Community Based Organisations that goes around different communities on weekends doing Civic Engagement and creating awareness amongst different age sets about their role towards public participation as their civic duty and reports on all injustices going about in the community.

As earlier said the main objective of starting up this venture is that personally I could find employment and also create some income generating activity to my fellow youths because currently with the economic recession that we as a state is facing , there aren't numerous opportunities as before and many youths often find themselves engaged in crime just to feed. Just to clarify this project does not necessarily intend to employ the jobless youths for a long-stretch of time instead it aims to help them also be innovative and secure their themselves as independent so that they may also get to employ others in the future and the legacy goes on.Each One Teach One.

Some of the things I know today is all thanks to both formal and informal education.And it is not easy to operate in an AI industry without prior basic knowledge, therefore it is right to say that one of our main aim as a team is to ensure as many people get to know or be informed/create awareness on the risks of improper dumping of e-waste material and the beauty that comes with proper disposal of the subject matter

It is a Man's world.But it wouldn't be nothing without a woman.Gender inclusion and diversity is key.Learning how to peacefully and harmoniously co-exist with other genders not just the traditional body forms that our minds were fixated to.Knowledge is vast and I may say inevitable , knowing one thing does not necessarily means you are clever and that you do not need other peoples opinions , it simply indicates that your idea might be good, but it would've been better if you could listen to different perceptions.We stand as a team against gender bias, gender based violence,misogynistic thoughts and value each other as equal.In short we support Equity,Equality & Equanimity

Apart from doing electronic recycling we are also involved with different community based organisations that deal with Garbage disposal and cleaning drainage systems.Therefore we took this up as our duty since we come from the informal settlements of Nairobi where people are admitted to hospitals on a daily basis due to consumption of contaminated water and other related diseases i.e Cholera & Typhoid and so we regularly do clean up to ensure at least a cleaner environment within our locality as we plan to scale county and countrywide

As to where we are headed currently we do encourage people within and without to use clean and renewable sources of energy to avoid air and land pollution in order to evade the global warming risk.Making sure to preserve energy when not in use and adapting to different affordable energies i.e biomass, synthetic energy and fossil fuels which are of independent origin and do not largely pollute the environment

Having a conducive environment and improved working relationships between the low level management and the top level management is more motivation than money could match up to.In an Institution where the workers/employees/partners decisions no matter how low are taken into consideration productivity is undeniable .Since the workers feel like they are valued and of importance hereby giving them that sense of belongingness of which each and every being soughts for and it is in the output where you will see the difference and this directly impacts the Gross Domestic Product thus improving the living standards of the households

E-WASTE is the fastest growing industry (by the minute) around the globe which heavily relies on the continuous advancing technology which means there is a big room/space for innovation.Since more high-tech household machines are next , new and advanced phones and communication devices are in motion but there is no solution to counter the effect that will come as a result of these new phones becoming obsolete and therefore creatives and innovators still have a chance to create and recreate better methods to mitigate the challenges that might occur in future.With the advancement of AI infrastructure will no longer be an issue since there will be efficiency and effectiveness in transport and service delivery.

Improperly disposed of e-waste can release harmful toxins into the air and water when they burn or decompose.Therefore by recycling e-waste, we significantly reduce the energy needed for production, minimising greenhouse gas emissions and contributing to the fight against climate change

Handling the E-waste issue is not a one mans' mission it needs lots of help and partnerships in both the public and the private sectors to necessitate with resources be it in kind or in monetary terms, advisory services, agency services.Also automatically partnering up with the Governmental Agencies that aid with Licences,Permits and Legal Aspect of the business not forgetting the Agencies that deal with Environment i.e National Environment Management Authority.

E-waste might be generational and new of course but recycling is a thing of the past and different generations have been practising it .The uniqueness and innovativeness in e-waste recycling for once is using automated sorting technologies, such as robotic systems made easier by open artificial intelligence which streamlines the process of segregation,assortment and degradation.Also Urban mining is a newer concept that makes E-TAKA to stand out whereby we extract precious metals from old devices, and this reduces the pressure on traditional mining and contributes to a more circular economy.

Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Centre (WEEE Centre) is an e-waste recycling company based in Nairobi, Kenya.They have all the resources needed and partners on call whenever and wherever but we have a competing advantage to our side since we are incoorporating the Machine Learning Algorithms(artificial intelligence) in Identifying and improving the accuracy and efficiency by learning from data patterns. This adaptability is crucial for handling electronic waste's diverse and evolving nature.
