Low-Cost Safe Pit Latrine (SATO), is a low-cost hygienic toilet pan that utilizes simple mechanical and water seals to close off pit latrines from the open air. This reduces disease transmission from flying insects that come into contact with human waste. The SATO pan eliminates the unsightly appearance and odors from open pit latrines. Our service is to install this Sato Pan in Schools in remotest regions of Nyanza and Western Kenya not connected with sewerage. Schools with poor sanitation and open defecation practices. Our aims of carrying out this business is to solve the challenges associated with poor sanitation : 1. To allow self-respect, privacy, security and have extra status in the schools and communitys; 2. To avoid the spread of diseases and infections from faeces openly disposed; 3. To avoid pollution of the environment (field, water and air); 4. To avoid bad and unpleasant smells. 5. To increase the enrollment of school going pupils in schools and academic performance
01.02 Quel est le problème principal que vous essayez de résoudre ?
Our already identified gaps is in line with SDG6 and at the same time we are creating job opportunity for masons and job for ourselves as youths in Kenya. 1. To allow self-respect, privacy, security and have extra status in the community; 2. To avoid the spread of diseases and infections from faeces openly disposed. 3. To avoid pollution of the environment (field, water and air) 4. To avoid bad and unpleasant smells.it was observed, pupils fear to go to use the pit latrines due to odour. In addition: 1.Right to a clean and healthy environment: under the Constitution,2010 every person in Kenya has a right to a clean and healthy environment and a duty to safeguard and enhance the environment. 2.Right to sustainable development: the right to development will be respected taking into account economic, social and environmental needs. Kenya seeks to achieve people- centred development that builds human capabilities, improves people’s wellbeing and enhances quality of life.
01.03 Dites-nous quels sont les principaux avantages et/ou bénéfices de l'utilisation du produit/service que vous souhaitez fournir par votre projet (au moins 3).
1.No more Epidemic outbreaks for cholera in schools. Contamination of the environment by fecal matter, due to poor sanitation include trachoma, typhoid, and diarrhea will reduce. Sato Pan will not allow flies that carries pathogens. 2.No more Deaths due to diarrhea no more pathogens from the toilets. According to the Water and Sanitation Program in 2012, roughly 19500 Kenyans die yearly due to diarrhea. Out of these, about 17100 are children below 5 years of age. This will reduce due to safe toilets puts in schools and homes ,affordable to all. 3.Reduction in Cognitive development problems among the children Research has shown that children who are raised in unhygienic areas are likely to develop severe cognitive issues in the long term. Early childhood diarrhea contributes to stunting, wasting, and undernutrition, which are all signs of malnutrition and, consequently, have a negative impact on long-term cognitive development.

Kenya ues Ksh 27 billion to treat sanitation related illness. With the adaptation of our Choo safi Kwa Masomo bora ,this money can be used in empowering women in their income generating projects that leads to no poverty Faeces are highly infectious and remain so for some time. When they are not disposed properly, they contaminate water, environment, food, etc., and cause water borne diseases such as diarrhoea which kills. We encouraged people to use latrines at all times to prevent diarrhea diseases. We keep telling them that “Prevention is better than cure”. Nobody should defecate in the bush as this leaves the excreta open to contaminate the surroundings of everybody. Each and every one must rather use a latrine every time they need to defecate. In this way the faeces are stored underground where they pose less threat to humans. Once they have prevented the illness, they will be productive in they work and they will be able to overcome poverty. No money will be spent in treatment.

"Choo Safi Kwa Masomo Bora" for Zero hunger. Initiatives to improve food security thus include components that increase food availability (such as agricultural production, imports, and aid), access to food (such as elements of increased income, Physical access, and distribution of food within the household), utilization of food (such as behavior change, health, water, and sanitation programs to reduce disease and malnutrition), and reduction of vulnerability and risk of future insecurity. A comprehensive strategy for addressing food insecurity connects water, sanitation, and hygiene efforts that address concerns of health, education, gender, and economic development. We believe by treating fecal matters may encourage income generation through increase of yields by boosting the harvest through the nutrients it contains hence a healthy population ,its low cost in that its cheaper for the rural dwellers

Interruption of Education due to poor sanitation in schools. Lack of access to safe drinking water, proper sanitation, and proper hygiene in schools contributes to low attendance in schools due to illnesses, shame amongst students, and even mortality in the worst-case scenario. Children are more likely to shun school if the conditions are not hygienic. With the introduction of our Sanitation services to schools not connected with sewerage in most remotests parts of Nyanza and Western Kenya,we believe we will make learning environment conducive. We have observed, poor sanitations make the school going children ,some remove the school sweater because of the odour/flies and others choose to use open defacation. But with the introduction of " Choo Safi kwa Masomo Bora" our sanitation services in schools-No smells ,No flies and Easy to clean Sato Pan will be a solution to the sanitation challenges being experienced.

"Choo Safi Kwa Masomo Bora" For gender equality. This idea was initiated by our female member of our staff. The women and children spend a large chunk of their time undertaking sanitation and water-centered activities. Women can sometimes be raped and young girls can be defiled while in the bush looking where they can relieve themselves especially in open defecation. Some these activities significantly harm their health and limit their ability to take part in other important activities such as education and income-generating activities. Once they adopt "Choo safi kwa Masomo Bora" there will be no raping, defilement, and women/girls will be able to excel in academics and other important activities. During menstrual cycles, there will be bins to place their sanitary towels. While improving sanitation for the broader school, our initiative also empowers women since they are believed to be the backbone of our communities. When they are empowered, we help create brighter future.

"Choo Safi Kwa Masomo Bora" for clean Water and sanitation. This will ensure reduction in open defecation hence no water pollution. Unsafe water, sanitation, and hand washing is the leading risk factor in Kenya. An estimated 14% of Kenyans practice open defecation. Open defecation is low in urban areas compared to rural areas .Poverty has been associated with open defecation in rural regions of Nyanza and Western. We have aligned our Sanitation Services with Kenya aims to achieve 100% open defecation-free status by 2030 in line with sustainable development goal number 6. The most common sanitation method nationally is a pit latrine without a slab. The burden of open defecation has increased among poor households, more so among the poorest. This may be attributed to non-poor households exiting the open defecation stage at a higher rate compared to poor households. Our service that we offer will harvest roof water for handwashing after using the toilets.

"Choo safi Kwa Maisha Bora" for Economic growth The economic implication of poor sanitation hits most in developing and under- developed countries. Kenya, for instance, loses approximately 27 billion shillings per year according to a study by the Water and Sanitation Program in 2012. This is equivalent to 0.9 percent of the country’s GDP. Mitigating the impacts of open defecation costs approximately 12.7 billion Kenya shillings. A recent WHO research that attempted to estimate the cost-benefit ratio discovered that every dollar spent on enhancing sanitation results in an economic gain of $3 to $6027. Therefore, implementation of WASH programs saves the country a lot of revenue that is lost to address WASH problems. Our target is to reduce this problem and this money can be spent in income generating projects through empoweing the women who carries the burden of sanitation in the society.

To address global concerns and create a better and more sustainable future for all by 2030, the United Nations adopted the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015. Among these, SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation seeks to guarantee that water and sanitation is accessible to all people and is managed sustainably. According to WHO, in 2020, 54% of the global population (4.2 billion people) used a safely managed sanitation service; 34% (2.6 billion people) used private sanitation facilities connected to sewers from which wastewater was treated; 20% (1.6 billion people) used toilets or latrines where feces were safely disposed of in situ; and 78% of the world’s population (6.1 billion people) used at least a basic sanitation service. Global sanitation coverage rose from 49 percent in 1990 to 58 percent in 2002. Still, some 2.6 billion people – half of the developing world – live without improved sanitation. This motivate us to do more in sanitation value chain before 2030.

Poor sanitation also decreases human well-being, social and economic growth due to influences such as anxiety, risk of sexual assault, and misplaced opportunities for education in our schools and work. Young girls could have defiled when they go to the bushes for open defecation. But with our sanitation Services "Choo Safi Kwa Masomo Bora" will be a solution to these challenges.Being a safe toilet and no contact with someone feaces,no fear anymore when using the toilets. When girls are in monthly period, some are avoiding to use the toilet after seeing the mensuration blood in the toilet that exposes its content. But with this Sato pan that we are installing will solve all this challenges in schools in the remotes areas of Nyanza and Western Kenya.

This system can be use at capture-level to remove and digest settleable solids from the sludge. A Simplified or Solids-Free Sewer system to transport the Effluent to a (Semi-) Centralized Treatment facility. The Effluent from Septic Tanks, Anaerobic Baffled Reactors, or Anaerobic Filters is transported to a (Semi-) Centralized Treatment plant via a Simplified or a Solids-Free Sewer. At treatment plant the effluent is treated and can be Use and/or disposed as treated Effluent for Irrigation, Fish Ponds, Floating Plant Ponds or discharge to a water body (Water Disposal/Groundwater Recharge). After adequate treatment, Sludge can either be used in agriculture or brought to a Storage/Disposal site. Considerations: i. Appropriate for urban settlements where the soil is not suitable for the infiltration of Effluent. ii. This system can be used as a way of upgrading existing, under-performing Collection and Storage/Treatment technologies (e.g., Septic Tanks) by providing improved treatment.

"Choo safi Kwa Masomo Bora" support life below water by ensuring a reduction in water pollution by fecal matter. In line with the sanitation aspect of WASH involves promoting the proper disposal of human waste and maintaining hygienic conditions. It includes the provision of sanitation facilities like toilets, latrines, and sewage systems to ensure safe and dignified waste management. Adequate sanitation facilities help prevent the contamination of water sources and the spread of waterborne diseases. Also affecting aquatic life.Like in Lake Victoria eutrophication has been reported and this initiave will largely reduce lake pollution.

"Choo Safi Kwa Masomo Bora" initiative is inline with the management of human excreta in rural schools in Nyanza and Western regions This involves capture, storage, transportation, treatment, and either reuse or disposal of the waste as part of a sanitation system. Activities for recycling waste water and excreta may concentrate on recovering nutrients, water, energy, or organic materials. Our roles therefore in sanitation economy is to ensure life on land is dignified and no pollution by the fecal matter . It is important to properly manage, operate and maintain a sanitation system to ensure that the system functions safely and sustainably. Our Sanitation Services in schools will eliminate open defecation that pollute soil and we encourage farmers to use treated human organic manure that does not deplete the soil unlike inorganic fertilizers.

"Choo Safi Kwa Masomo Bora" is an engagement for Private -Public Partnerships.A Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreement is when the public and private sectors work together to provide public benefits. In order to increase safe the effectiveness and quality of public service delivery, private enterprises’ operating principles must cooperate with public administration (Tochitskaya, 2007).Our partnership in public schools in rural areas in Nyanza and Western Kenya. We are also partnering with Total Energy to make this dream a reality. We will also extend our partnership with County Government and non-governmental organizations to support the poorest in the two communities. Fecal matters or rathe safe sanitation also require a team work from the administration stakeholders like chiefs and assistant chiefs.

05.08 Justification de mon projet
"Choo Safi Kwa Masomo Bora" initiatives is an improvement of the existing ways of sanitation. The main different is that this uses a sensor,GPS,solar panels for the purpose of monitoring the volume of the feacal matter. We design and use the Sato pan for the purpose of eliminating flies, bad smell and ease of cleaning. We are also able to treat the feacal matter that become a new useful product like briquets for cooking instead of using charcoal from trees. We can also after treating the fecal matter, get organic fertilizer for increase in crop yield.
05.09 Qui sont vos principaux potentiels concurrents et qu'est-ce qui vous différencie d'eux ?
"Choo safi Kwa Masomo Bora" Competators are the masons who are also installing the Sato pans for the people in rural areas. However, they can not defeat us because our main customers are the schools and they are not involved in sanitation value chain like us.Again we are using GPS sensor technology to monitor the volume of feacal matter inside the pit toilets.Involvement of partners in our service give us a competitive edge to our sanitation business. We are also compliance with government regulations sorrounding handling of human waste.
10.06 Menez-vous des actions au sein de votre communauté pour promouvoir le rôle des femmes entrepreneurs ?
Yes."Choo Safi Kwa Masomo Bora" initiative is in the front line in encouraging the female entrepreneurs. We have encouraging women to take parts in Sanitation Business in different ways:marketing of the Sato Pan,installations of the Sato Pan,sensors installations, designing of the safer toilets in remotest areas under water scarcity.
