Our project aims to establish a state-of-the-art Bagasse recycling plant in Kisumu, strategically located next to Kibos Sugar Company. Using Bagasse, an abundant byproduct of sugar production, we will manufacture eco-friendly, compostable alternatives to single-use plastics, such as disposable mugs, plates, packaging materials, spoons, and tree seedling packs. With the recent introduction of the eco levy on single-use plastics, our products offer a cost-effective, sustainable solution that aligns with national environmental policies. This not only reduces plastic waste and pollution but also supports the circular economy by turning agricultural waste into valuable resources. The main problem we are tackling is the pollution caused by single-use plastics in Kenya. These plastics pollute our land and oceans, harming animals, the environment, and even people. They take hundreds of years to break down, making waste management difficult. With the new eco levy tax on single-use plastics, there is a growing need for cheap, eco-friendly alternatives. Our project will turn Bagasse, a waste product from sugar production, into biodegradable, compostable items like disposable cups, plates, tree seedling packs and other packaging alternatives. This helps reduce plastic pollution and makes good use of waste materials. By providing these sustainable options, we aim to create a cleaner and healthier environment for everyone in Kenya.
