01.01 Décrivez votre projet en détail
The Building Bonds Model is a model for a localised, community-led, stakeholder-supported, sustainable, and tech-driven education programme that can be replicated in societies across the African continent. Geared at supporting the academic achievement, wellbeing, and wider development of children and youth across their basic education journeys. Our model focuses on developing literacy, skills, and enterprise as a way of supporting the youth in preparing for, sourcing, securing, creating, and maintaining income generating opportunities that ultimately benefit entire communities. We begin intervening in the early years, where ECD centres help to prepare young children for primary school education. After-school programmes follow on this to provide a supportive environment for learners to explore and reach their full potential by allowing them to learn new skills and hone their academic talents. Post-school education and training adds to this by closing the attainment gap.
According to the Consortium for Research on Educational Access, Transitions and Equity more than half of the children in disadvantaged communities who start primary schooling will fail to complete it successfully. The challenges linked to school drop-outs exist at the individual, household, school and community level and interact with each other. Drop-outs are often the result of a process rather than a single event, usually have more than one cause, and are difficult to reverse. Communities are weakened when their strongest resource us not supported and empowered to become the best they can be.
(1) When young people are educated and skilled, they can significantly contribute to creating stable and stimulating communities. Supporting young people through education journey (1) provides youth with the safety and necessary resources they need to excel by promoting mental, physical and social well-being, helping them build a brighter future. 3. The programme will benefit various stakeholders in the education system, providing a skilled workforce, knowledge, resources, and opportunities for the community at large. 4. The potential of such a programme is such that it creates a hub for the entire communities to benefit from. By tapping into what the community needs, the model works to deliver and support young people and their communities, using resources that are already available to strengthen capacity and create a circular environment.
The project serves and advocate for the more than 60% of the African population under the age of 25, with particular attention given to females and those living in disadvantaged communities. We believe that Africa’s youth holds the key to its developmental potential. By 2030, young Africans are expected to make up 42 percent of global youth. As a network, we harness the demographic dividend, and reimagine Africa’s education programmes to incorporate context, nurture talent, and expand opportunities for young people in the context of their communities.

02.09.02 Justification de la contribution de mon projet
The model does not take a top-down approach to development, but works alongside the community to provide the resources they need to support their young people through schooling and build a stronger ecosystem. The model also doesn't create new programmes from scratch but partners with other organisations that are running successful programmes to together scale impact and accessibility. The model also focuses on using already existing infrustructure within communities to implement the programmes, minimising infrustructure needs that often work as barriers to staring and running development programmes. This model strengthens the community on which it operates because all members of the society are involved in the programming. Schools, businesses, councils, parents, youth groups... The model is of collaboration and not competition among stakeholders.

My main competitors are educational support programmes across the continent. ECD Centres, Aftercare programmes, and training institutions. I stand out because I provide all three services all at once, also because I work with existing organisations to implement the model, meaning that my competitors can be my partners.
