Conventional paper production heavily relies on wood pulp, leading to deforestation and environmental degradation. This results in the loss of vital forest ecosystems, increased carbon emissions, and worsened climate change. In Ghana, the disposal and burning of corn husks, a major agricultural waste product, contributes to waste and air pollution. By converting corn husks into high-quality paper, we tackle the issues of deforestation and agricultural waste. Our innovative approach helps conserve forests, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and offers an eco-friendly alternative to wood-based paper. Furthermore, our project supports local farmers by creating a new revenue stream from the sale of corn husks, promoting economic growth and sustainable development in the Tamale region.

06.08 Justification

The demand for paper on Ghana alone is valued at 1.5 million US Dollars. Thats tells the high demand for paper. Our paper type is not entirely different from the conventional paper only that it is more durable, resistant to water and best fit for packaging materials. Our products comes in to meet the demand on the market thereby giving the customers the satisfaction they need.

Our main potential competitors are paper making companies like Nataraj, Fobasca and Vistaline. Whats makes us standout are the facts that we are eco-conservative because ourproduction does not involve the cutting down of tres. We are located in Northern Region of Ghana which makes it easier for us to serve the Ghanaian market without any importation costs. Our products aree more affordable than the conventional paper. Our production also contributes to climate smart processes by preventing the burning of corn husk after harvest and preventing the cutting down of trees for paper production. Our paper is more durable, can withstand water better and can also resist easy tears.

Yes. My company has employed 9 people with 55% being females. My company has two females being co-founders. We have engaged in community meetings where we met female farmers to train them on sustainable and profitable farming practices and also share some entrepreneurial opportunities with them.
