Describe your project or startup in a few words
HomeAway Ghana is a bold initiative to revolutionize the home rental ecosystem in Ghana and ensuring that renting a home in Ghana will henceforth becomes as easy and seamless as one would subscribe to their favourite online streaming services.
01.01 Describe your project in more detail
Renting in Ghana, especially in the capital city of Accra, is notoriously challenging. Prospective tenants are often required to pay rent advances for a minimum of one year and sometimes up to three years or more before moving in. This situation is particularly unfavorable for the Ghanaian youth, who are struggling to make ends meet. In response to this issue, my sister, a friend, and I conceived the idea of HomeAway Ghana. Our startup aims to make renting in Ghana as easy as subscribing to a Netflix account. With HomeAway Ghana, tenants will be able to pay only the first month's rent to move in and then continue paying on a monthly basis. Additionally, we offer a crowd investing service where civilians can support our innovative solution and earn a monthly interest rate of 6-8.5%. The funds raised through this initiative will be used to pay the advance rent to homeowners, thus bridging the gap and making renting accessible to more people, especially the struggling youth.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
The main problem that HomeAway Ghana is trying to solve is the financial barrier to renting homes in Ghana. We are specifically trying to address the issue of tenants being required to pay large rent advances (typically one to three years' worth of rent) before they can move in. This requirement is particularly burdensome for Ghanaian youth and others who struggle to accumulate such large sums of money upfront. Our solution allows tenants to pay just the first month's rent to move in and then continue paying on a monthly basis, making housing more accessible and financially manageable.
01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your project intends to provide (at least 3).
The major benefits of or advantages of using HomeAway Ghana are as follows; 1. The youth can now get decent an comfortable places to rent and live without any hassle or the need to pay up any cumbersome upfront rent advances. This will bring a much needed financial relief to the youth and as result offer them peace of mind and the stability they need to thrive. 2. Homeowners will also still be able to have access to substantial rent advances they would have otherwise taken from their tenants to carry out other developmental projects without any hassle. 3. We did not only stop at creating a renting solution, but also did create an attractive investment solution which will enable civilians to support this innovative solution and ensure its smooth operation while earning a stelar interest return on their investments. 4. Bringing a form of stability to the rental ecosystem Ghana, especially Accra, in our own small way, one tenant at a time.
01.04 Please describe who exactly your project is aimed at serving. Who are the targeted beneficiaries?
HomeAway Ghana is primarily aimed at serving the following groups of people; 1. Young professionals and first time renters. At the start of their careers, it is literally a yoke on their necks if they are to pay such huge rent advances before they can get a decent space to call home, and we aim to change that. 2. Students They do not even need to be stressed enough. 3. Low to middle income earners. As stated in the case of the young professionals, it is a struggle when such demographic are being demanded to pay up huge rent advances upfront, especially in the current economic climate. 4. Landlords seeking reliable income without the hassle of chasing tenants around. 5. Civilians who are looking for secure and high yielding investment opportunities in the real estate market.
