01.01 Describe your startup in more detail
Umdali Wamaqanda is an egg enterprise which aims to serve the community of vanderbijlpark, sebokeng, germiston. Our target market is households, cretches, hospital canteens, restuarants, fast food and spaza shops, feeding schemes, food security NGO's. This enterprise is at its starting capacity, using 5000 layer chickens to lay fresh produced eggs, and the eggs are sold to the community. The current value of this enterprise is 3,5 million rand , with its most expensive input cost being chicken feed. The main objective of this enterprise is to serve its community, create its footprint, produce quality, affordable and safe food products into the community, and to prepare its compliance to enter the commercial market. Due to an electricity crisis involving Eskom cutting off the electricity at the farm, the farm is without sustainable and adequate electricity for its operations and importantly to pump water from the boreholes. The enterprise is in need of a solar system and infrastructure.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
The enterprise aims to solve food insecurity, by serving its surrounding community by providing eggs that are affordable, safe, accessible in distance and consistently available. This enterprise aims to employ persons who stayed on the farm prior to the enterprise being registered, aims to invite university and college students who want to come and practice egg production with their facilitators so that this activity can facilitate skills transfer. The enterprise aims to employ unemployed graduates in agriculture. This enterprise aims train and employ disabled people particularly who are deaf owing to the specialized skills of the CEO who has a qualification in South African Sign Language (Wits) , Safety management (UNISA), Bachelor of Nursing (VUT). The chairperson of the project is very passionate about skills development and empowerment of disabled persons. The enterprise also aims to decrease shortage of eggs, egg prices and increase the GDP of South Africa.
01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your startup provides (at least 3).
Eggs are an easy nutritious meal enjoyed by 90 % households in South Africa. Eggs are easy to make , quick to get ready, can be used for eating with bread , pap, salad or in salad wraps. Eggs are used to bake by many bakeries. My eggs are affordable, fresh and safe to eat. Eggs can be used to decrease nutrition deficit in malnourished persons who struggle to gain weight are a high source of protein. Eggs can be stored up to 30 days at room or below room temperature don't really need you to have a fridge.

My enterprise will employ the unemployed people who were living on the farm prior to the enterprise being registered so that they can afford food other than food available on the farm, the enterprise aims will resuscitate productivity to promote availability of food on the farm for both people staying on the farm and households around the farm to end hunger. This enterprise to also further aims to skill those who were staying on the farm to allocate land for subsistence farming to promote more availability of food on the farm to use the fertile soil available to them to end hunger, produce even more food and decrease dependency of buying expensive processed foods from retail store if they cannot afford.

The enterprise will ensure safe and good practices during food production to prevent food borne diseases or disease of chickens , as part of primary prevention of human illnesses, to promote the health and wellbeing of the community. My enterprise will ensure food safety and also ensure immunization of our chickens and food compliance so that we protect the health and wellbeing of the community. Our enterprise will promote affordable food to the community to prevent nutrition deficit diseases in the community so people can eat affordable balance diet and so that those on chronic medication can afford to eat and not default medication due to not affording to food.

My enterprise wellcomes all ages, disabled especially deaf, students from university & colleges, and others who are uneducated and seek skills courses. My enterprise will train the existing workers to perfect their skills and improve their agriculture knowledge and introduce them to new technology used in farming. Our enterprise allows students already studing agriculture to come do their practicals in poultry or egg production accompanied by their assessors or facilitator. This enterprise aims to facilitate skills transfer from university students who visit the farm for their practical education to the unskilled workforce on the farm. This enterprise aims to apply in the near future for accreditation of short skills courses of poultry production so that we can offer quality skills development or skills education to the community so that they can be employable in the agriculture sector.

The Enterprise has received ist water rights declaration from the municipality, the emfuleni municiaplity has confirmed that the farm is without the water pipes and sewage pipes of the Municipality. Therefore, the enterprise is raising money to ensure that we have an adequate electricity system using solar power that will allow the enterprise to pump clean water from the boreholes which water can be used for drinking eating, farming, and for sanitation. The enterprise has opted to install two new toilets that will use a septic tank to promote adequate sanitation and prevent sewage from contaminating soil.

My enterprise aims to introduce technology that makes farming better, safer, quicker to people who know traditional farming. My enterprise will use 4th industrial infrastructure such as drones that will be used as security tools, temperature and climate monitoring tools, environment monitoring tools for pests and insects monitoring and other innovative technology to do farming. This will also train students who study agriculture to use such tools for agriculture in the 4th industrial revolution to improve agricultural methods and manage risks that are there in agriculture such as short staffing, climate change and security.

06.08 Justification for my startup
Our enterprise is selling an existing product that is better than my competitors because it is more affordable, accessible fresh from point of production, and has a South African name " Umdali wamaqanda" that means " the Creator or God of eggs". The brand is unique and catchy and easy to remember and is trusted because of its local South African name or feel. The eggs are already being sold in the community using a pilot number of layer chickens . The number of layers needs to be increased to 5000 for the startup so that we can meet the demand of affordable and safe eggs that is not being satisfied in the community.

Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Other egg producing farms, egg depots, shops and other retailers, what makes me stand out is the affordability and the name of my enterprise and how I market my brand on social media . My enterprise has a South African product feel that I bring to my customers that makes them trust my brand better than other brands.
11.05 Are you initiating actions within your community to promote the role of female entrepreneurs?
Yes, my enterprise is trying to increase the employment of more woman in agriculture, training of more woman to have agriculture skills, and supporting more businesses that a woman owned by procuring their supply. I encourage more and more women to be trained in scares agriculture male dominated skills that can improve their employability in agriculture such as skill in poultry management, tractor driving, agriculture drone operation and other.
