01.01 Describe your startup in more detail
Favoured Culinary is a multi-faceted production house, specializing in both bread and confectionery products. We started this business out of a deep passion for cooking and a desire to improve people’s lives. The motive behind the establishment of Favoured Culinary is to produce mainly bread line items at an affordable price yet still maintaining the quality, the goodness and nutrients in bread. We believe we can produce more for many for less. Favoured Culinary has a bakery based in the township of Clayville Extension 45. The area has many residents, most of them being people who are pensioners, the unemployed and children. We leverage on the fact that the area is developing and we are the most easily accessible bakery in the area. Our products come 30 percent less than our competitors which makes it more affordable for our target market. Instead of competing with our competitors we have chosen to collaborate and add value to our customers when they purchase our breads.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
We at Favoured Culinary would like to take the initiative and respond to 9 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing. Which list as follows End poverty in all its forms everywhere End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages Quality Education Economic Growth Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development
01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your startup provides (at least 3).
At the moment our products (mostly sandwich bread) has grown to be the most popular line item. Our Products offer a solution to end the flawed or broken food system and offers food security which ends hunger, ensure healthy lives, promote well-being for all ages. 1. Our Next Step to Build a Better Future: To collaborate with an insurance company in that, we want every R1 spent buying a bread line item by our customer to go towards a premium of a policy that has been especially created for low incomes earners. Be it:- 1. An Education Policy 2. Life Insurance 3. Funeral cover These policies will will have way to prepare our customers for the future and alleviate the cycle of poverty. This will also promote collaboration and grow the economy. 2. Malnutrition Bread Bar Treatment We are currently working on developing a 80g bread bar that is filled with minerals and vitamins and is high in energy for treatment of children who have been diagnosed with micronutrient under nutrition.

Our products are aimed for the low to middle income earners, consumers of bread and bread line items.

My name is Lwandile Mnguni. I come from a background of maritime, supply chain and road freight, acquired my diploma in International Trade and Transport at College for Business and Maritime Studies. I am the former Director of Aweze Amalahle, which was a company that focused on the distribution and transportation of coal within South Africa. I had the role of being a Warehouse controller at Radiant lighting and Max and Blaze and part of the logistics team at Flamite and Freight controller at CFR Freight which was the start of my career. I ventured into culinary in 2020 and obtained my certificate in Fresh meat processing and trained with Chipkins Puratos as a baker. I have worked for Food Lovers Market as a Counter Hand and Baker. I have more than 4 years in baking, food safety and customer service. I am well skilled in inventory, buying and have excellent communication skills. I am currently studying Consumer Science in Food and Nutrition with UNISA.

The inability to eat a full meal leads to poor concentration. The frustration for bread winners that lack money for basic food leads to mental health illness, alcohol abuse to bury sorrow of not being able to support their families. Our products offer a solution.
