Describe your project or startup in a few words
Yell as the name suggests a loud, sharp cry of pain. YELL to us is an acronym and it stands for Yours Entrepreneurship Life or Language. Our aim is to connect local entrepreneurs to investors/thought leaders via business podcast and web & mobile app.
01.01 Describe your startup in more detail
Our aim is to invite Entrepreneurs to share their experiences through multimedia intervention – Yel-Podcast, to have discussions based on their journeys of starting or running a business. In our experience we deeply understand the language and the life of entrepreneurship is dull and poor for businesses in the South African republic, especially the start-ups. Therefore, we will fight to help SMME’s to find the ground-breaking solutions that include us inviting protentional investors, industry experts, and ambassadors of the departmental financial institutions respectively. This will help guide the invited entrepreneur in finding better solutions from different opinions of the industry experts at the spot.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
According to the research, South Africa’s supportive environment for entrepreneurship is rated lower than global averages, there are positive signals in increased early-stage businesses by SA Women and Youth. The results prove a significant growth of 17.5% in 2021, up from 10.8% of 2019, and those owning operational businesses for at least 3.5 years, was at 5.2%, up from 3.5%, ranking South Africa 45th out 50 countries in GEM National Entrepreneurial Context Index. Generally, there is still a high failure rate of startups, high business discontinuation rate, fear of failure, poor adoption of digital technology and poor confidence of entrepreneurs. These worst signals are driven by post-COVID-19, Loadshedding and the bureaucracy to struggle with the red-tape. There is still much more to be done to enable the SMME’s.
01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your startup provides (at least 3).
The South African podcast industry is posed for a huge growth in the coming years. The data found that along with an increase in the amount of content being created and watched, podcast marketing revenue is set to climb rapidly as businesses take advantage of the medium. Additionally, it was found that the number of south African podcast listeners will grow to 4.8 million by 2027 – up from 3.2 million in 2023. This makes podcasts an essential part of the digital media landscape going forward. In comparison of other countries, in the United States by 2024 RSA is expected to generate the highest revenue in the Podcast Advertising market, with an estimated revenue of $2.6 million. This rise leverages local brands to reach a growing audience of digital savvy consumers.
01.04 Please describe who exactly your startup’s product/service is aimed at serving. Who are the targeted beneficiaries?
Yel-Podcast is one the key multi-media projects of the Kasi Digi Tech Studio (KDT Studios), a division of Million Benefits Pty Ltd. Our solutions cater to the fragmented market, focusing on addressing the needs of underserved businesses in geographically isolated areas, prioritizing those in townships with modest profits, struggling to secure funding and yet scaling up from early stages to attract potential investors. What makes us unique is the fact that we help investors viewers to explore the untapped potential and unique strategies of the resilient businesses that often go unnoticed in the mainstream media or publicly. Amongst our competitors in the market, we paid closer attention as to how they project themselves during interviews, practicing scripts, staging content etc. With us is way different, we don’t pretend to be robots, nor scare people rather allow users to feel more comfortable and welcomed.
