01.01 Décrivez votre startup en détail
As the 'Sustainable Agriculture Marketplace for Africa’, we are poised to address some of the continent’s most pressing agricultural challenges, by offering a sustainable solution to it. A. Waste to wealth program. 1. Save Your Food Scraps: Instead of throwing away your food scraps, save them! These include fruit peels, vegetable cuttings, coffee grounds, eggshells, remnant food, yam peels, cartons and more. These organic materials are rich in nutrients, decompose beautifully and perfect for composting. 2. Send this waste in. 3. Earn Points: Now for every 10kg of waste you save, we reward you with 1000 Naira worth of points. This is our way of saying thank you for joining us in our mission to protect the Earth. 4. Shop with Us: You can use your points to purchase items from our recycled products shop. B. Circular Agriculture: Using the waste obtained above, *For Crops: manure and organically sourced seeds. *For Animals: animal sourced feed and medication. *For Humans: organic foods.
01.02 Quel est le problème principal que vous essayez de résoudre ?
Its a no-brainer that families and businesses (eg. restaurants, farms, animal feed processors, gardens etc) both have immediate need for affordable and fresh food and they all generate organic/food waste. However from an environment perspective, food waste decomposing in landfills is a major source of methane gases which are most harmful and deadly to our planet. Thus our startup aims to address two main problems: 1. Food Waste Management: Africa faces significant food waste challenges, from production to consumption. By utilizing food waste to create regenerative agri-products, we contribute to efficient resource use and minimize waste. 2. Access to Sustainable Products: Many consumers seek organic, eco-friendly products. Our startup’s online marketplace provides access to agricultural organic products, promoting sustainable choices and supporting regenerative practices.
01.03 Dites-nous quels sont les principaux avantages et/ou bénéfices de l'utilisation du produit/service fourni par votre startup (au moins 3).
By participating in our food waste recycling program, you’re contributing to a healthier planet in several ways: 1. Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Food waste in landfills produces methane, a greenhouse gas that is much more potent than carbon dioxide. By composting and processing our food waste, we can significantly reduce these emissions. 2. Enriching Soil: Compost made from food waste is rich in nutrients and can improve soil health. This leads to healthier plants and a more vibrant garden. 3. Conserving Resources: Composting food waste reduces the need for chemical fertilizers, conserving our natural resources. 4. Saving Money: By earning points through our program, you’re saving money on your purchases. Plus, using compost in your garden can reduce the need for water and fertilizers, leading to additional savings. 5. Healthier food: By buying food from us, you are guaranteed of 100% organic food that was produced in a sustainable way. 6. Better general health and so on...

As a marketplace, we've identified that families and businesses (eg. restaurants, farms, animal feed processors, gardens etc) both have immediate need for affordable and fresh food and they all generate organic/food waste. From an environment perspective, food waste decomposing in landfills is a major source of methane gases which are more harmful and deadly to our planet. This problem/issue impacts the entire global ecosystem from insects to animals (both wild, tame and inbetween) and down to humans. We are focused on serving mainly families and businesses at this moment in time.

Our ecosystem creates: 1. Employment Opportunities: Such as new jobs, particularly in rural areas. By adopting regenerative practices, local communities can engage in sustainable farming, processing, and distribution. These jobs provide income, enhance livelihoods, and contribute to poverty alleviation. 2. Resource Efficiency: Our model optimizes resource use. By reusing waste, recycling nutrients, and minimizing inputs, production costs are reduced. Lower costs mean better profit margins, which can directly benefit farmers and workers. 3. Food Security: Which enhances food production while preserving natural resources. Improves yields and diverse crops, ensuring stable food supplies. Food security is a critical component of poverty reduction. 4. Environmental Benefits: Circular practices reduce deforestation, soil degradation, and water pollution. This protects ecosystems and benefits communities which supports long-term economic stability. 5. Creation of new businesses.

I believe that earth just like other living organisms was created self sufficient with numerous regenerative capabilities so it baffles me that hunger should be allowed to exist moreso in Africa. Many lands in Africa are facing desertification and if there is anything my experience in agriculture has taught me it is that if you care for the land, it knows and would in turn care for you by yielding its best for you. Do the opposite and you have yourself to blame. I believe 0 hunger is achievable through our initiatives by: 1. 100% Access to Adequate Food All Year Round because Circular agriculture ensures sustainable food production and distribution. 2. creating and facilitating circular models which minimize waste, regenerate soils, and protect ecosystems. 3. creating Zero Loss or Waste of Food. Our startup focuses on efficient resource utilization.

This is a deeply personal topic for me because I lost my mum on the last day of February this year. Its deeply personal to me because I remember how much and to what great lengths she went to source for organically produced foods due to her health. An extremely resourceful individual, she began producing as much organic food and veggies all around our home. She patronised me as a very limited farmer but drew the line where admittedly some harmful and dangerous chemicals were used in production. This project is a 'Legacy project' due to her self determination in healthy food production. I understand that good health isn't just limited to humans. Animals need good health to grow well and produce well the same with crops. For a long time earth has been experiencing poor health and if we spent half the resources we spend on our individual health and pharmaceuticals on earth positive projects, I believe we all would have much longer life expectancies in GOOD HEALTH!

Constraints Faced by African Women farmers include: Access to Inputs: Women have limited access to family labor, high-yield crops, pesticides, and fertilizers. Unpaid Care Work: Women’s unpaid care and domestic responsibilities affect their ability to engage in productive farming activities. Cash Income: Lack of cash income leads to lower use of contemporary farm technologies. 1. Studies consistently find that female farmers have lower rates of agricultural productivity than male farmers in sub-Saharan Africa. This gap does not arise because women are less efficient farmers but because they experience inequitable access to critical agricultural inputs. 2. Equalizing women’s access to inputs could raise crop production by up to 19% across Africa. It would boost agricultural and overall GDP and lift millions of people out of poverty. Our startup is addressing access to inputs, promoting time-saving equipment, and reducing gender disparity by promoting sustainable agri-practices.

Water Management and Circular Agriculture: 1. Circular agriculture emphasizes efficient water use and conservation. Practices like rainwater harvesting, drip irrigation, and water recycling minimize water waste and enhance availability. 2. Reducing Inorganic Fertilizers: Inorganic fertilizers contribute to water pollution and soil degradation. We promote organic fertilizers, composting, and regenerative practices to maintain soil health without harming water quality. 3. Prioritize regenerative practices: We minimize chemical inputs, and promote sustainable agriculture which contribute to healthier ecosystems and water quality. 4. Women and children bear the brunt of dirty water and poor sanitation in Africa. Our gender-inclusive approaches empower women farmers and homes, bridging productivity gaps and promoting sustainable water use and proper hygiene.

In Africa, its very easy to differentiate a child from a well to do family from a not so well to do home. I believe that food plays a major role in reducing such inequalities. It truly is ugly seeing children born into such comparisons. By making food more sustainable, I believe it will be less scarce meaning more available and affordable thereby bridging such inequality gaps.

Our competitive advantage is that we have a more diverse list of products we produce in house. Our marketplace is also a huge advantage due to a first mover advantage. This simply means that all of these companies can still end up selling their products on our marketplace and our commision will be added to our revenue. We also engage in food production by renting lands to produce foods that consumers and businesses make use of.

Kaltani and Ecobarter are Nigerian-based and focused on plastic waste recycling. Regrow Ag, BioLoop, Circular Crop, Ynsect, AgriProtein, Regen organics in Kenya are doing an excellent job at recycling organic waste but our intended approach includes restaurants, businesses, homes etc gathering and sorting out their food waste and we pickup and process it for recycling in exchange for points which can be used to purchase items from our marketplace. Now this is the first-time that a platform 100% dedicated to sales of sustainable agricultural products in Africa. A competitive advantage is that we have a more diverse list of products we produce in house. Our marketplace is also a huge advantage due to a first mover advantage. 11.05 Menez-vous des actions au sein de votre communauté pour promouvoir le rôle des femmes entrepreneurs ?
Yes. I happen to be the Young Farmers Coordinator of Abuja Region under the Young Farmers Association of Nigeria so part of what we do is to educate young people (boys and girls) about agriculture. I engage yearly in wet season farming at a comercial scale and over 90% of these workers are women. The funds earned by them go back into their farming activities.
