My project aims to tackle hidden hunger in Tanzania by fortifying sunflower oil with essential micronutrients such as vitamins A, D, and E to solve Hidden hunger, resulting from deficiencies in these nutrients, is a significant public health issue. Since edible oil is a staple in Tanzanian diets and used in almost every meal, fortifying sunflower oil is an effective way to enhance nutritional intake across the population without changing eating habits. To ensure a consistent supply of sunflower seeds and address raw material shortages, I am establishing an irrigation farming system on my farm. This model farm will use efficient, sustainable agricultural practices to maximize sunflower crop yields. It will also serve as a demonstration site for local farmers, teaching them best practices in sunflower cultivation and irrigation techniques. By increasing local sunflower production, the project aims to reduce Tanzania's reliance on imported edible oils .

Additionally, establishing an irrigation farming system on my model farm guarantees a reliable supply of sunflower seeds, tackling raw material shortages. The targeted beneficiaries of my fortified sunflower oil and irrigation farm model project are diverse, encompassing various segments of the Tanzanian population, with a special focus on vulnerable groups. Primarily, women and children stand to benefit significantly. Women, particularly those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, require enhanced nutritional support to ensure their health and the healthy development of their children. Fortifying sunflower oil with essential vitamins and minerals helps meet these critical nutritional needs, reducing the risk of complications during pregnancy and supporting better health outcomes for both mothers and infants. Children, especially those under five, are highly susceptible to micronutrient deficiencies which can lead to stunted growth, impaired cognitive development, and increased susceptibility to infections. Winning this award will further our mission to install the refinery plant, fortify and refine oil, enhance market share, and support smallholder female processors by adding value to their crude oil to increase their market share, thereby contributing to Tanzania's economic development and community health.
