Minimizing food wastage and post harvest losses for avocado farmers in Tanzania, we produce 100% pure avocado oil from physically imperfect avocados which would have otherwise gone to waste, empowering local avocado farmers and promoting sustainability.

Agricultural Innovation for Sustainable Solutions, (AIS Solutions) is a social enterprise on a mission to minimize food wastage and post-harvest losses for farmers in Tanzania through intensive value-addition actions. Established in 2021 amid the devastating effects of COVID-19 on the livelihoods of farmers, AIS Solutions is working with local avocado farmers in Njombe, irnga and Mbeya regions. Our approach to minimize post-harvest losses and combat food wastage is through farmers' training, capacity building and value addition. By using market surplus avocados termed as "rejects" which have not met export standards but are fit for human consumption we increase farmers' income and appeal to environmental concious consumers. We have worked with more than 500 avocado farmers, created more than 100 full-time, part-time and seasonal jobs, and processed more than 200 tons of avocados that would have gone to waste. Our products are; edible avocado il, unrefined avocado oil and cosmetiic oil

Tanzania grows 970,000 tons of avocados per year and loses up to 400,000 tons. Local avocado farmers are faced with 40% post-harvest losses annually due to an overdependence on the export market which has strict criteria and is susceptible to external forces as the case of COVID 19 pandemic. Ignorance of good agricultural practises, poor post-harvest handling and lack of cold chain storage and transport and facilities contribute to their plight. This leads to loss of the economic potential of this fruit which is termed as 'green gold' and the loss in the nutritional potential of the highly nutritious low-calories superfood. On the other hand Tanzania is faced with an edible oil dificit, spending about $ 144 million annually to import edible oil. Avocados have high oil cotent which is ntritous and can be used as a supplemental sorce of edible oil.

We are a social enterprise with ' people, planet and profits' centered values. Our targeted beneficiaries include; People ( Customers and local avocado farmers): we have a range of products targeting middle and high class health conscious consumers. We also aim at improving the livelihoods of local avocado farmers. Using export surplus avocados Sourced directly from farmers increases the farmers incomes. Planet: Commercial avocado farming is resource intensive, Taking up to 7 L of water to produce one fruit (12 times more than a tomato). By using market surplus avocados we promote sustainable consumption hence benefiting the environment. Profits: With applications ftom cooking, cosmetics manufacturing to medicinal uses, avocado oil is a versatile product. The Global avocado oil market is valued at $ 533 million with a CAGR of 5.82%. We are poised to take advantage of this growth trend to develop our brand into a profitable global brand.
