Amore Laboratories solves pollution caused by Avocado waste through large scale value added processing of avocados and incentiving farmers to plant more trees. Stock feed from Avocado cake, Avocado oil and Avocado seed powder are products produced.

01.01 Décrivez votre startup en détail

Amore Laboratories is a PBC which is in the processing and manufacturing of organic products from locally grown perishable fruits.The organic products includes tomato puree, avocado oil,avocado seed powder, stockfeed. In responds to climate change mitigation the seeds from the processed fruits are propagated into fast growing trees, the nursary is planted whilst other plants are donated and some sold.The main product currently is avocado oil, Avocado seed powder and Avocado cake used to make stockfeed. Using Avocado cake to make stockfeed is a novel innovation which is more sustainable and solves many problems. Organic matter on dumpsites emmits greenhouse gases on top of pollution.Through this intiative communities are encouraged to plant more trees, women employed,the environment saved and climate change consciousness promoted.The process of extracting the Avocado oil is purely cold pressing with no chemicals or solvents used.

01.02 Quel est le problème principal que vous essayez de résoudre ?

The problem that I am solving is of avocado fruit wastage which will result into pollution. Avocado fruit is one fruit that has a high carbon foot print mainly during transportation and after they start to overripe and eventually thrown on dumpsites.In Bulawayo Avocado are transported from the Eastern part of Zimbabwe unfortunately during transportation some ripe on the way, Avocados being soft when rippen they become damage and once offloaded are thrown away.From the shelves and from market Avocados quickly gets bad therefore thrown away again. Instead of leaving this mess unattended I managed to come up with a solution to collect those override Avocados before they get bad and also the over supply then value add them by processing to products like Avocado oil, Avocado seed powder, Avocado cream and stock feed.The intiative works as an advantage because all the above mentioned products are being imported to Zimbabwe.

The benefits of this intiative is that there are plenty of resources the Avocados which are highly nutritious. The final product will be relatively affordable and sustainable to continue production. The project saves as a best practice to raise awareness about environmental preservation and as a potential to give birth to other similar initiatives. Besides the intiative incentives farmers to grow more as they were discouraged to grow more fruit trees due to losses after harvesting and transportation.Post harvest preservation and innovation is still lacking in Zimbabwe therefore this intiative is the best to save as an example.

The target beneficiaries are the unemployment women whom with an investment I will employ more. The customers the farmers will have affordable stockfeed. People who prefer plant based cosmetic either for beautification or use as remedy for infections.The environment is the major benefitor as this innovation seeks to reduce the carbon footprint.

I am the director a laboratory technician by profession and a life long learner in science technology. Climate change advocacy is also my area of interest.

Avocado oil is highly nutritious both for consumption and external use. The avocado seed powder was proven to be a good food supplement and to fortify other foods with it hence providing more nutritious elements for good health.

The competition is from synthetic products on the market and some which are a mixture of synthetic and plant based. The producers of stockfeed already inthe market which are big brands. My unique proposition is that this in novel and the products are plant based which follows th trend nowadays of people preferring plant based products visa ve synthetic.
