The modern farm is an innovative modern agriculture project that will deal with fish farming and soybeans cultivation. We have 20 acres of land in Chalinze, Coast region. We'll drill a borehole and use well water for irrigation and fish farming.

The Modern Farm will focus on fish farming (Nile tilapia) in earthen concrete ponds and cultivation of Soybeans by irrigation system. To ensure availability of water throughout the farming season we will drill a borehole and Well water will be used for farming. To conserve water, the waste water exchanged from fish ponds will irrigate the soybeans farm. We own 12 acres of land in Chalinze District, Coast region. Our project will produce protein based foods which will contribute in alleviating hunger, provide balanced diet and decrease poverty by creation of employment to the farm laborers. The Nile tilapia and soybeans are in great demand, with relative low competition. Dar es Salaam region is our major target market that serves the approximately 5 million people of the region. The rest will be sold to the local community surrounding the farm. The source of fund is by the owner's income generated from other activities and we will request funds from development partners.

The United Nations millenium development goals highlights extrme poverty and hunger as one of major challenges. The world especially African continent still suffers from extreme hunger and extreme poverty, its twin problems. Hunger can be fought successfully by employing modern agricultural systems and technology that will ensure abundant food production. That is why we opted for irrigation agriculture because farming by dependency on rainfall is unpredictable. In addition we will alleviate poverty through creation of employment to the laborers. Also with adequate protein based food we'll decrease the burden of non communicable diseases mainly diabetes and systemic hypertension which are greatly due to starch based food diseases.

Our products fish and soybeans are good source of proteins and vitamins hence will provide good health to the consumers as it is a part of a balanced diet. Also soybeans and some fish parts are used to manufacture poultry feeds , animal feeds and and fish feeds. Thus contributes greatly in the growth of the livestock and poultry industry. Also fish is a good source of Omega 3 vitamins which are used in pharmaceutical industry for medicines and nutrition supplement purposes to patients.

Our project produce mainly protein based foods. This serves as food to the whole community, and more importantly to the local community surrounding the farm and surrounding regions. Secondly this serves the people without employment as they will be employed for farming activities. We will employ a veterinary and agricultural officer and other laborer on permanent basis and have part time workers to help during the time of need such as planting, weeding and harvesting periods. It serves the industrial sector through provision of raw materials needed in fortified food and those for animal feed production.

Poverty has its root from not having certain skills that solves a particular problem in the society that will provide you income or it may be due to lack of opportunities despite having skills in a certain field. Our farm will provide employment to the people who do not have particular skills but are physically fit to do the farming activities. Also for the people who are unemployed but with agricultural professional skills like veterinarians and agricultural officers will be employed in our farm this will provide them with income and thus eradicate poverty at their family level. Further more, due to health balanced diet by having adequate food will prevent the community from falling sick due to malnutrition thus don't spend their income for hospital and medical expenses, and with good health will provide them with adequate time to engage in economic and production activities.

Our project will use Well water for irrigation and not only depend on rainfall as many parts of the world are affected by drought and inadequate rainfall. This ensures quality and adequate production from our farm which contributes directly to alleviate food shortage in the community. In addition to that when agricultural products are increased this will cause even the price of food to be relatively low and affordable to those with middle and low income level. With adequate and nutritious food they will have good health and will use their finances to acquire adequate food hence ensure food security at the family level.

Protein malnutrition (Kwashiorkor) is one of the diseases that is due to food deficient in protein nutrients. This is evident especially in war torne areas like Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan. We will produce fish and soybeans which will contribute to meet the local demand and even export the surplus according to the government export policy. This will also reduce the problem of metabolic syndrome, diabetes and systemic hypertension diseases which are commonly due to starch based food. The typical Tanzanian dish consists of large portion of starch in comparison to the proportion of other food nutrients, partly because starch is the most abundant and cheap food in comparison to protein rich food like fish, meat and soybeans. Finally indirectly, creation of employment in our farm will provide income to buy food stuffs which will provide good health and well-being

Quality education is determined by a number of factors such as family income level to provide the basic needs for school like school uniform, learning materials like books, pen and the like. Through employment at our farm the laborers will be able to provide the basic needs for school. Also their children will not be subjected to childhood labour which is one of the factors limiting childhood education. Also with employment and good health parents at the societal level are able to cooperate with the government in construction of schools. Quality education is also contributed by adequate healthy balanced diet which provide good mental health and good reasoning capacity and understanding. This is possible by having adequate food production.

Our project will ensure gender equality by ensuring employment opportunities in our farm are given equally to both men and women, as women are the most neglected or discriminated regarding employment

The region where we will conduct our project lacks a nearby community water supply system. They travel about two kilometers to pick water by bicycle or motorcycle. We expect to drill a borehole and have Well water for farming purposes. We will also sell water to the surrounding community at affordable price and low cost in comparison to the cost they incur currently buying water about 2 kilometer away from their home places. This will also improve sanitation and prevent eruption of diseases like cholera which are due to poor sanitation water shortage being among the main cause.

Through the use of drip irrigation system, and using waste material from one farm activity as raw material for production in another farm activity. We will use waste water exchanged from fish ponds which contain fish excrement to irrigate the soybeans hence providing some sort of natural manure

Our project is innovative in that we will use modern irrigation system, drip irrigation which will help us conserve water and costs at the same time ensuring continuous growth of the soybeans. Also using waste water exchanged from fish ponds helps to provide a form of manure to the plants since they contain fish excrement.

05.09 Qui sont vos principaux potentiels concurrents et qu'est-ce qui vous différencie d'eux ?

The main competitors are the farmers who had been farming before us. We planned to ensure we produce best quality products that can compete in the market. Second we will ensure we produce our products in rotational style that will allow us to have our products in the market throughout the year, in comparison to other farmers who produce in certain seasons of the year only.

Yes, though indirectly. I support to pay college fee of female relative in college, when she graduates she can use the education to establish an activity that will earn her money and the community.
