Fips.org is designing an early warning and action system for floods and promoting resilience in the critical infrastructure and communities living in flood-prone areas. In Kenya, floods cause so much disruption to human lives and even loss of life.

01.01 Décrivez votre startup en détail

this startup is a two-person-run startup founded in 2022, The major motivating factor as to why this project was started was. One of the members hails from one of the most flood-stricken communities in Kenya, Kisumu, Kenya. it is noted that in a year there are at least 2 flooding incidences along River Nyando, seeing the damage this lack of awareness on the river behavior and how to make communities aware of such calamities before hand is what is fueling this project.

We, as FIPS, are trying to create resilience among communities living along or in proximity to ever-flooding regions of the country. the problem is lack of awareness of the behavioral patterns of the rivers and seasonalities that cause damage to their hard labor, flooding information unavailability, flood maps and clear communication channels to make these communities resilient to climate change impacts, not only flooding but also drought caused by adverse climatic conditions. as reports from researchers say, there is going to be an increase in climate change induced atmospheric patterns. this needs a faster action. and thats where we come in

the system we are trying to develop will: . create awarenes in communities, . provide flood information, flood maps and spatial analytics that will serve as advising documents to development projects all over the country. This system will help analyze patterns and changes in environmental changes that pose threats to infrastructure and communities
