The value chain involves collecting organic waste, composting, and packaging the product, then selling it to homeowners and farmers. This approach not only reduces food waste but also generates revenue and supports sustainable agricultural practices. Additionally, the project will implement community education programs to raise awareness about composting and food waste reduction, reaching local schools and community centres. These efforts instil sustainable practices in younger generations and the community at large. The value chain model not only contributes to resource recovery and waste reduction but also generates employment opportunities, supporting the local economy. Globally, approximately one-third of all food produced, about 1.3 billion tons annually, is wasted. In Zambia, around 45% of the population suffers from hunger. High-quality organic compost plays a vital role in organic farming, but there’s a lack of affordable, nutrient-rich compost available to farmers and gardeners. Local Authorities also face challenges managing food waste sustainably and cost-effectively. Additionally, soil degradation affects 33% of the earth’s land surface, underscoring the importance of sustainable waste management. Therefore our food waste through composting, we not only provide environmental benefits but also create economic opportunities. Composting food waste into nutrient-rich organic compost offers a sustainable solution to food waste management. It can be marketed to gardeners and farmers as a valuable input, promoting healthier and more productive soil. This approach also fosters increased consumer awareness about the health and environmental benefits

Our start-up's product is aimed at serving farmers and gardeners who seek sustainable and organic solutions for soil health and crop productivity. Additionally, we target local authorities and waste management entities looking for effective, eco-friendly food waste solutions. In the recent 9 months, Zambia has been faced with drought and it is therefore anticipated that the percentage of hunger will rise by 25% and this translates that young children will be affected due to malnutrition, lack of proper diet by pregnant and lactating mothers. Through us offering affordable, nutrient-rich compost, we help these key stakeholders enhance soil quality, reduce reliance on synthetic fertilizers, and promote sustainable agricultural practices in turn improve nutrition to marginalised groups. Moreover, our product benefits community members by creating local economic opportunities and contributing to waste management solutions, promoting a healthier and more sustainable environment for all.
