Protein is a project whose aim is to create excellent economic, social and environmental sustainability. Our current goal is to produce 6 tonnes of fish within the first 6 months and our Vision is to create an fish farming centered ecosystem.

01.01 Describe your project in more detail

Protein is a self sufficient project idea. This project is is being championed by 3 young entrepreneur s and Engineer, natural resources specialist and marketing specialist. At the moment we have secured land with enough water to cater for the needs of 2 by (20*30*1.5) fish ponds, which is our initial target. We have also secured 1000 usd to take care of perimeter fence for our site. Inorder for us to commence production we are looking for capex and opex cash infusion of about 6800 usd. Fish harvest will be done every six months and not only do we get fish but we also get black liquid gold which carries nutritions which we will use in horticulture in our efforts to creat a fish farming centered ecosystem. Our vision is to have an ecosystem system made up of 3 farming system poultry, fish farming and horticulture and we have a capable team to achieve it.

01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?

There main problem that we aim to achieve produce high quality and low cost protein accessible to everyone in our society. The main health challenges in third world countries such as Zimbabwe is nutrition based and we are going to put our bite into the fight by proving high quality low cost protein into our society.

01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your project intends to provide (at least 3).

So the protein market in Zimbabwe is mainly dominated by beef, chicken and pork which have an average cost of around 5 usd/kg now with us selling our fish at an average cost of 3 usd/ kg it offers better value for money per kg. As our fish will be grown in controlled environments we have great chance of improved quality and tastes offering more nutritional benefits to our customers. Locally we will able to create employment with a minimum of two people employed during the farming season and a minimum of 10 people being employed during harvesting time.

01.04 Please describe who exactly your project is aimed at serving. Who are the targeted beneficiaries?

Our target consumer are the basic Household which consumer protein almost on daily basis. These will be reached out to through our protein centers. Then we also have the fish meal dealers which produces fish meal for poultry feeds production.

Leading the team is a chemical engineer who had vast experience in processing industry, water and waster water, energy, and quality control. The team is also made up of a natural resources specialist with vast knowledge in water and waster water, and in aquatic industry. Finally the team if made up of marketing specialist with enough knowledge and expertise to put the product where it belongs.

So one of the key things in our project is the site we chose we are going to do our project in rural areas where we will not only address the issue of employment but also we will champion programs in fish farming where we are going to put together teams teaching them fish farm and also supplying fingerlings for rearing.

Ending hunger if going to be achieved through programs such as fish farming societies which we are going to carry out as part and parcel of our vision. We are going to be teaching societies how to Carry out fish farming and we are going to be supplying fingerlings for rearing and we have cat fish earmarked for this exercise as their rearing demands are low compared to the tilapia. This exercise will go a long way in achieving food security in the rural areas. As our fish is grown in controlled environment we will have better improved quality and better nutritional value this will go a long way towards us having improved nutritional meals. Protein project is a fish farming centered ecosystem where we will have poultry at the start of the cycle fish in the middle and horticulture at the end, this will ensure that no waste will go in utilized as waste of one farming system will be an input of another farming system achieving sustainability

So out team has a quality control expert who will ensure that the product is of better quality and taste than the wild fish. As mentioned earlier most of the diseases faced in third word countries are triggered because of lack of nutritional meals. So our efforts will go a long way in making sure that the general good health is achieved and kwashiorkor will be a thing of the past. As a result of all this the general well being will be achieved too

Our aim as protein is reach a monthly output of around 4.5 tonnes of fish, this is the first phase of our vision. This will create a monthly revenue of around 10000 usd and employing a minimum of 12 people during growing season. This offers not only a chance of decent employment to the locals but also economic growth to the surroundings.

Optimisation is one of the key tools that we aim to utilize inorder to achieve sustainability. 05.08 Justification

Most players rear their fish in lake water and earth ponds. They however do not have integrated farming system like we intend to have which does not only maximize profit but reduce environment foot print of the business.

05.09 Who are your main potential competitors and what makes you stand out from them?

At the moment our biggest competitor would be companies like lake harvest but our competitive edge for now is we are going to produce fish at equally their producer price but us being located at the consumer doorstep it cuts down the need of consumer to travel long distances to get an equally good product if not a better one

No
