Describe your project or startup in a few words
A company committed to transforming the world's future through sustainable innovation. At EcoVision Ventures, we are building a greener tomorrow by providing affordable and accessible solar-powered water purification systems for rural communities .
01.01 Describe your project in more detail
Solar-powered water purification system will utilize a combination of photovoltaic (PV) panels, a water filtration unit, and a storage system. Here's a breakdown of how it could work: 1. Photovoltaic (PV) panels: These panels would be installed in an area with ample sunlight exposure, such as on rooftops or in open fields. They would capture solar energy and convert it into electricity to power the water purification process. 2. Water filtration unit: The water filtration unit would be connected to the PV panels and would consist of various filtration stages to remove contaminants and pathogens from the water. This could include sediment filters, activated carbon filters, and UV disinfection systems. 3. Storage system: A storage system, such as a tank or reservoir, would be used to store the purified water for distribution to the community. This ensures that clean water is available even when sunlight is not sufficient to power the purification process in real-time.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
One of the most significant problems that solar-powered water purification systems aim to solve is the lack of access to clean water. In rural Zimbabwe, many communities rely on contaminated water sources, such as rivers, streams, and shallow wells, which are susceptible to pollution from agricultural runoff, industrial waste, and human activities. As a result, waterborne diseases like cholera, typhoid, and diarrhea are prevalent, causing significant morbidity and mortality, particularly among vulnerable populations such as children and the elderly. By providing a reliable source of clean and safe drinking water, solar-powered purification systems can help mitigate the burden of waterborne illnesses and improve public health outcomes in rural communities. These are issues addressed by implementing a solar-powered water purification system in rural Zimbabwe: 1. Access to clean water 2. Energy access 3. Waterborne diseases 4. Environmental sustainability 5. Economic empowerment
