Describe your project or startup in a few words
Polycycle project seeks to collect, haul, recover resource from waste then recycle by upcycling to high-level products. We mainly deal with HDPE type of plastics to manufacture any product that cement can make with even better quality.
01.01 Describe your project in more detail
The Polycycle Project is an innovative initiative aimed at transforming waste management practices by focusing on the collection, hauling, and recovery of resources from waste, particularly HDPE plastics. This project emphasizes recycling through upcycling to manufacture high-quality products that can substitute cement-based items. The objectives of the Polycycle Project align with critical environmental and socio-economic goals, addressing pollution, providing sustainable waste management solutions, and creating employment opportunities.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
1. Environmental Impact Pollution Reduction: By diverting HDPE plastics from landfills, the project significantly mitigates the emission of greenhouse gases that are typically associated with the decomposition of municipal waste. Resource Recovery: The project promotes the recovery of valuable resources from waste. 2. Sustainable Waste Management Alternative to Land filling: The project offers a feasible and cost-effective alternative. By converting waste into valuable products, the project reduces the burden on landfill sites and extends their operational life. Innovative Products: The up cycled products manufactured from HDPE plastics are designed to meet or exceed the quality of traditional cement-based products. 3. Socioeconomic Benefits Employment Creation and improved standards of living: The project is expected to create jobs that spans in various stages of the project, including collection, processing, manufacturing, and distribution. Thereby improving living standards.
01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your project intends to provide (at least 3).
The product made from this are stronger and more durable than the conventional products which are in the markets. The products would be of reduced cost, thus 20-40% cheaper than our competitors due to low-cost raw material. With the going green mantra being advocated across the world and the forecasted annual growth of 21.6% in the demand of green products from 2022 to 2030. This avails an opportunity for the poly-products to become more desirable in the market.
01.04 Please describe who exactly your project is aimed at serving. Who are the targeted beneficiaries?
Targeted audiences 1. Municipalities (e.g Chinhoyi Municipality): Provides a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to land filling, reducing municipal waste management burdens 2 Local Businesses and industries, supplying high-quality, up cycled products that can replace traditional cement-based items promoting eco-friendly construction practices. 3 Environmental Organizations, Aligns with their goals of reducing pollution and promoting sustainable resource management Beneficiaries: 1. Local Community, Benefits from a cleaner environment, reduced pollution, and improved public health. 2. Unemployed Individuals, Gains employment opportunities through various stages of the project from collection to manufacturing. 3. Economy Experiences growth due to job creation and the development of a new market for up cycled products 4. Future Generations: Inherits a more sustainable and environmentally friendly waste management system.
