Biogas stove is renewable energy form doesn’t get in market, but due to the best functions and its efficiency the majority one needs, it operates simply and manually and also environmentally friendly. It is reliable, safe, and easy to maintain.

01.01 Describe your project in more detail

Biogas is a mixture of primarily methane and carbon dioxide that can be burned and thus, utilized a fuel source. This project utilized a co-digestion model from cow manure with fruit and vegetable waste relating to an anaerobic digestion facility. Fruit and vegetable waste is an organic material having the high calorific value and nutritive value to microbes, that’s why efficiency of methane production can be increased by several orders of magnitude. It means higher efficiency and size of reactor and cost of biogas production is reduced. This alternative is considered more beneficial, because in addition to the production of liquid bio-slurry used for fertilizer it also yields biogas as an energy source.

01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?

It has been estimated that about 80% of Ethiopian households living in the rural and urban areas use wood fuel and charcoal for cooking and heating. This practice is unhealthy and unsustainable. Since most of the part depends on charcoal and fuel-wood for fuel supply which requires cutting of forest. Thus, due to deforestation It leads to decrease the fertility of land by soil erosion. And also use of dung, firewood as energy is harmful for the health of the masses due to the smoke arising from them causing air pollution. Therefore, we need an ecofriendly substitute for energy.The need for sustainable energy is rapidly increasing in the world. A widespread use of renewable energy is important for achieving sustainability.

01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your project intends to provide (at least 3).

The major benefits of using my product are:- to reduce women saddle, to substitute the commonly used Liquid Petroleum Gas(LPG) this will highly contribute to the country economy by minimizing the forien currency, and environmentally friendly thus in Addis Ababa city, fruit and vegetable waste is disposed in landfill or discarded which causes the public health hazards and diseases like malaria, cholera, typhoid. Inadequate management of wastes like uncontrolled dumping bears several adverse consequences. It not only leads to polluting surface and groundwater through leachate and further promotes the breeding of flies, mosquitoes, rats and other disease bearing vectors. Also, it emits unpleasant odour & methane which is a major greenhouse gas contributing to global warming.

01.04 Please describe who exactly your project is aimed at serving. Who are the targeted beneficiaries?

My target market will be for Addis Ababa and around community who uses electric stove, liquid petroleum gas charcoal and wood for their cooking.

Biogas is useful as a substitute for firewood, dung, agricultural residue, petrol, diesel and electricity. The fruit and vegetable wastes like cabbage leaves, fruit peelings like sweet banana, mango, papaya, etc. These wastes were disposed with municipal solid wastes. It can be made to use wastes effectively. In Addis Ababa city, fruit and vegetable waste is disposed in landfill or discarded which causes the public health hazards and diseases like malaria, cholera, typhoid. Environmentally friendly individuals may choose to compost their food waste to acquire a useful fertilizer or soil amendment; however, this process does not allow a means to capture the energy that is locked up in waste. Many municipal waste management programs do attempt to harness organic waste energy through combustion in waste-to-energy plants and methane collection from microorganism activity in landfills. While such systems make use of the energy available in food waste, they do not directly benefit the individuals who produce the waste, and may also involve additional costs to those individuals related to collection. There are widely encouraging community participation in the biogas production and use of renewable energy by encouraging the production of biogas at the household level. Biogas-generating technology is a favorable dual-purpose technology at present: the biogas generated can be used to meet energy requirements while the organic residue is a useful fertilizer.
