The project called "KosheBrick Ethiopia" uses plastic garbage to create sustainable building materials in Ethiopia. Plastic trash, such as bottles, bags, and packaging, is transformed into sturdy bricks and paving tiles by this effort. Devoted to the concepts of environmental sustainability and circular economy, the project tackles the pressing issue of plastic waste, mitigating landfill pollution and offering sustainable construction options. Plastic garbage is gathered, sorted, cleaned, shred, and compacted into tiles or bricks as part of the multi-step process. Strength, durability, and safety of the materials are guaranteed by quality control and product testing. The project seeks to establish credibility and incorporate these materials into conventional building practices by acquiring third-party certifications. Long-term goals include developing a scalable platform for upcycling plastic trash, strengthening local communities, and promoting sustainable development.

01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?

The primary issue that we are attempting to resolve is Ethiopia's widespread pollution caused by plastic trash. Nowadays, a significant proportion of plastic waste including bottles, bags, and packaging ends up in landfills or the environment, seriously polluting the environment and harming the ecosystem. In addition to contaminating soil and water supplies and endangering human and wildlife health, this plastic trash is a major contributor to the expanding worldwide environmental disaster. Due to the lack of infrastructure to handle the growing volumes of plastic trash, Ethiopia confronts a significant problem in handling this material responsibly. The issue is made worse by ineffective recycling techniques, which result in overcrowded landfills and damaged landscapes.

We boost the local economy and improve community well-being by using local labour in the stages of collection, processing, and manufacture.

There are two important members of the KosheBrick Ethiopia team, and their combined abilities and experiences are critical to the project's success. Their collective experience puts them in a strong position for the project's future, even though production hasn't begun yet. Colleague 1 partner has a background in manufacturing and industrial engineering and has good technical abilities in supply chain management, quality assurance, and production procedures. With their expertise in streamlining production processes, recycled plastic bricks and tiles will be produced effectively and efficiently while adhering to durability and safety regulations. Cooperative Partner: This partner is excellent at public communications, stakeholder collaboration, grassroots mobilisation, and social entrepreneurship. She also has experience in community engagement. Their knowledge is essential for establishing solid community relationships.

05.09 Who are your main potential competitors and what makes you stand out from them?

Traditional brick and tile makers as well as other recycling projects are the main possible competitors. Conventional producers prioritise traditional materials, lacking the advantages that KosheBrick's recycled products offer for the environment. Other recycling programmes might not combine economic growth with community involvement to the same extent as KosheBrick Ethiopia. Our project is distinctive because it combines affordability,durabiliry,sustainability, and community empowerment. Differentiating ourselves from competitors, we provide a dual solution that addresses the pollution caused by plastic waste while also creating jobs.
