Korojo eco package and bags
Describe your project or startup in a few words
The project is producing eco friendly biodigradable packages and bags from agricultural residues (banana pseduo, Enset, rice straw ) to reblace the existing plastic bags to reduce the envionmental pollution and to convert agricultural waste to products.
01.01 Describe your project in more detail
Our project is dedicated to producing environmentally friendly packaging and bags to replace existing plastic bags, utilizing agricultural wastes. This initiative begins with the collection of agricultural residues from farmers, providing them with additional income, then produce fibers and pulps through a mechanical extraction process. The extracted pulp is transformed into paper bags and packaging, resulting in biodegradable, affordable, and chemical-free products that help prevent plastic pollution. Another goal is to develop resin or raw materials for plastic manufacturing from agricultural byproducts, enabling plastic manufacturing companies to produce 100% compostable plastic bags. This dual approach offers susitanable alternative for plastic bags and supports the circular economy by turning agricultural waste into valuable products. Through these efforts, we are committed to reducing environmental impact, supporting farmers, creating jobs, and promot a cleaner, greener future.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
Our project aims to tackle the environmental pollution caused by plastic bags, which take over 200 years to decompose and release harmful toxins when burned. Countries like Kenya and Japan have banned plastic bags due to their negative impact. However, in Ethiopia, plastic bags are still used daily, and their disposal is unorganized, leading to litter on streets, in rivers, and on abandoned land. This not only mars the country's beauty but also poses a threat to wildlife, as animals often ingest these bags and die. The other thing we address the issues of strength and cost associated with plastic bags, providing a more durable and affordable alternative. Our project converts agricultural waste into valuable products, providing farmers with additional income and helping them escape poverty. By transforming agricultural residues into biodegradable, eco-friendly packaging, we support environmental sustainability and economic development, promoting a cleaner, greener future for Ethiopia.
01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your project intends to provide (at least 3).
