Kuraz Technologies is an edtech startup that tackles the challenge of unequal access and outdated methods in Ethiopian education. Our solution is comprehensive suite of EdTech platforms including Learning Management System, Exam System, Tutor Platform and E-book Platform. These tools prioritize affordability, accessibility, personalization, and inclusive support. Kuraz Technologies aims to empower students, educators and communities through innovative learning approaches fostering academic performance, skill development, and improved educational outcomes. Our business model targets a broad customer base and utilizes various revenue streams to ensure platform sustainability and growth. Through strategic partnerships and targeted outreach, Kuraz Technologies is poised to revolutionize education delivery in Ethiopia and create lasting change.

01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?

In Ethiopia, as per the 2020 UNESCO report, among 25 million students in high school and university, 62.7% are in high school, while 37.3% are in university. These figures highlight that only 20% of students have access to smartphones. Furthermore, UNESCO indicates that enrollment rates stand at 34% for high school-age students and 12% for university students, with the World Bank underscoring a rural-urban education gap, disadvantaging rural students in accessing quality education resources. Access to technology remains limited, with internet access at 15%. Additionally, a 2020 the FDRE Ministry of Labor and Skills report reveals a 25.3% urban youth unemployment rate, with 40% of the employed engaged in self-employment, often associated with lower skills and wages. Kuraz Technologies endeavors to alleviate these discrepancies through innovative edtech solutions, acknowledging the shortcomings of current systems in delivering equitable and quality education access.

Our target demographic consists of university students, high school students, and individuals seeking career transitions, aged between 16 and 35 years old. Our estimated market size within the education sector is approximately 26 million individuals. We aim to capture 5% of this market, equating to around 1.3 million customers. For the time being our geographic focus is primarily on major cities across Ethiopia.

Yonas Gebremeskel, a network engineer with over 15 years of experience at tech giants like T-Mobile, Samsung, ZTE, and Sony, adds valuable expertise. Luam Gebremichael, a software architect and consultant at IBM with over 10 years of experience, completes our diverse team. United by our commitment to leveraging technology for educational transformation, we aim to bridge educational gaps and create employment opportunities through innovative solutions.

Even though our idea is a pioneer solution provided in Ethiopia, it is an existing solution that is being entertained globally specially on the western world. This creative idea is backed by innovative approach that integrates multiple components into one cohesive ecosystem, offering holistic support to learners. We prioritize accessibility, affordability, and leverage innovative technologies to address existing educational challenges in a fresh and impactful way.

Up until this time, the specific area we are operating is an uncontested market space. There isn’t much competition. However, our potential competitors in our realm are Muyalogy, Exam Time, FutureX, and Etemari. Affordability, Accessibility, Payment modes, multi-lingual, personalization & inclusive support made us a better edtech companion. At this point, it is my honor to tell you that we are pioneer in delivering such platform.
