Describe your project or startup in a few words

The project is established in Simada woreda, south Gondar, Amhara region, Ethiopia, aiming to deliver borewell drilling service to household farmers which will enable them to improve their food security.

01.01 Describe your startup in more detail

Worldwide the percentage of people who are starving is rising with women and children making up the majority of those suffering. Food insecurity can lead to delayed child development, anxiety, diabetes, anemia, hypertension, infections, injuries, and violence. The aim of this project is to involve in house hold irrigation, establish irrigation tool manufacturing workshop, and convey experience to household leaders in Simada woreda for improving food security, health and climate change. In the first phase of the project term, the project will involve small-scale household irrigation in Simada woreda Abaymanie village. Through the process of conducting day-to-day irrigation activities, the team will identify the opportunities, challenges, and tools required. House will be rented, furnished and equipped with machineries to establish the workshop. The workshop will design and manufacture small-scale instruments for irrigation activities based on tool requirement feedbacks. Finally, the

01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?

According to the food for the hungry international (FHI) document more than half of the population is getting food aid under FHI’s safetynet program. The residents of the woreda produce agricultural products during the summer season only once a year, which makes the people food insecure and causes product scarcity. Nearly 0.025% of the population is estimated to be participating in irrigation activities and facing water scarcity. Even though the area has the potential to be productive, due to the unavailability of running water and the inaccessibility of groundwater, the resident’s productivity remains dependent on rainfall, regardless of the rapid population growth.

01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your startup provides (at least 3).

The major benefits of this project will be a. Enabling food insecure household farmers to improve their food security level by enabling them to produce more crops during the dry season b. Enabling the households to get balanced diets from their farming during the dry season which will contribute in creating healthy community c. The project will improve the household income and at large the countries economy d. Will have a contribution in conservation of environment from planting fruit trees

The service this project aiming to deliver is not new technology but this service is not currently available for the community who is demanding it

In the area this project is planned to serve there is no any company or organization delivering similar service. So, the company will be the only one in the area. The companies abroad will not be profitable to deliver such service since there will be transportation cost on the contrary we will not have too much transportation cost that will enable us to deliver the service with a competitive price and the house holds will surly select us.
