Describe your project or startup in a few words
ACUBED is a health tech startup that addresses the unavailability of diagnostic tests in Ethiopia and Rwanda by aggregating diagnostic tests in one platform using mobile app and call center.
01.01 Describe your startup in more detail
ACUBED is a health tech startup offering a marketplace and logistical solution through innovative technology. Our platform aggregates diagnostic tests from various health facilities into one mobile app and call center, significantly increasing the number of tests available and enhancing accessibility. On the logistics side, we provide convenient sample collection and transportation by qualified professionals from the customer's preferred location, ensuring timely and accurate results. Additionally, we create supplementary income opportunities for health workers by onboarding them as gig workers for sample collection and transportation. This groundbreaking innovation has the potential to effectively address a critical challenge in the healthcare landscape.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
ACUBED is dedicated to addressing the unavailability of diagnostic tests in Sub-Saharan Africa, where this issue is both widespread and prevalent. A recent study revealed that diagnostic tests are available in only 19% of primary care facilities across ten Sub-Saharan African countries. Additionally, a 2015 study found that only 35% of essential diagnostic tests for antenatal care were available in health facilities in Addis Ababa. Our extensive market research indicated that 50% of patients encounter unavailability of diagnostic tests in health facilities, with 70% of these patients experiencing this issue multiple times. Furthermore, the average turnaround time for test results is eight hours. The unavailability of diagnostic tests has severe consequences on patient health outcomes, leading to delayed diagnoses and treatments, increased rates of misdiagnosis, prolonged hospital stays, and heightened patient dissatisfaction.
01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your startup provides (at least 3).
Our solution offers multiple advantages. By aggregating diagnostic tests from various facilities onto a single platform, we increase the number of tests available and accessible to customers. Additionally, we offer convenient sample collection from the patient's preferred location and provide 24/7 access to diagnostic tests from anywhere. By distributing the testing burden among our partner facilities, we significantly reduce waiting times for test results. Our impeccable customer service and efficient complaint handling further distinguish our solution.
01.04 Please describe who exactly your startup’s product/service is aimed at serving. Who are the targeted beneficiaries?
We plan to target customers aged 20-55 with middle to high incomes, particularly those with busy lifestyles who prefer not to spend time waiting in health facilities for test results. Additionally, we aim to serve individuals with chronic illnesses requiring regular testing. We also focus on providing a private and confidential testing alternative for stigmatized diseases, such as sexually transmitted infections, especially for youth and higher education students. Furthermore, we plan to partner with telemedicine companies and home-care service providers to expand our reach and service offerings.
