01.01 Describe your startup in more detail
Introduction In the contemporary economic landscape of Ethiopia, the agricultural sector remains the backbone, contributing significantly to the nation's GDP and employing a majority of the population. However, despite its critical importance, the sector faces numerous inefficiencies, particularly in the supply chain. One of the most pressing issues is the prolonged and convoluted broker chain that stands between farmers (producers) and consumers (purchasers). This extended pathway not only inflates costs but also diminishes the profit margins for farmers and increases prices for consumers. Addressing these challenges requires innovative solutions that leverage technology to streamline the supply chain, making it more efficient and equitable. Developing an integrated application and platform presents a transformative business model aimed at bridging this gap. By directly connecting farmers with consumers and traders, this model seeks to bypass the traditional intermediaries, thereby
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
The main problem is the inefficiency and inequity in the agricultural supply chain in Ethiopia. Farmers face challenges in getting fair prices for their produce due to multiple intermediaries, lack of market access, and inadequate information on demand and pricing. Consumers, on the other hand, struggle with high food prices, limited access to fresh produce, and lack of transparency about the source and quality of their food. By connecting farmers directly with consumers through an application and website, we aim to eliminate intermediaries, ensuring farmers receive fair compensation and consumers gain access to fresh, affordable produce. This platform will provide real-time market information, streamline transactions, and foster a more equitable and efficient agricultural market.
01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your startup provides (at least 3).
