Rufal farm is an organic poultry farm that is committed to producing healthy, nutritious and affordable poultry meat and poultry manure to meet the growing population demand and their nutrients need without any harmful effect on the planet.

01.01 Describe your startup in more detail

Rufal farm have adapted the use of sustainable agricultural practices . Raising our chickens with nature in mind, enables cycling of nutrients through feed, manure, and soil and help to increase biodiversity.Rufal farm focuses on how the health of animals is integrated with the health of the natural environment and humans. Birds health are maintained with practices that prevent the introduction of disease, such as vaccination. We raise our birds without the routine use of antibiotics.Instead our farm uses good ventilation, generous space, probiotics, essential oils, and botanicals. These significantly promotes the physical and mental well-being of the poultry and their ability to conduct natural behaviors. Also, feeding the poultry natural nutritious feed ensures that the poultry meat and manure produced are 100% organic with no residue of antibiotics and synthetic chemicals. Making our poultry products healthy and safe for both human consumption and the environment.

01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?

Food insecurity and climate change are the main problems rufal farm is trying to solve. Food insecurity is one of the factors contributing to the increase in food poverty and malnutrition in middle and low standard of living communities in Nigeria and the world in general.Global food insecurity had already been rising, due in large part to climate phenomena. It’s recently been estimated that the global food system is responsible for about a third of greenhouse gas emissions—second only to the energy sector; it is the number one source of methane and biodiversity loss. Rufal farm Adapts sustainable agricultural practices in the production of organic poultry meat and manure with minimal or no negative impact on the environment. Here there is consistent supply of poultry meat to the market, which increases the availability healthy poultry meat to meet the rising population demand and their nutritional needs. Increasing its availability significantly increases its affordability too.

*Rufal farm services are good in terms of quality, consistency and reliability. *Our products (meat and manure) are organic, safe, healthy and very nutritious. *Our poultry products (meat and manure) are affordable. *Our poultry products ensures recycling of nutrients in the birds, humans and the environment. * Our poultry meat is always clean and packaged properly for use. *Our products have an advantage of not having residue of antibiotics and other chemicals, making them safe for the people and the planet.

01.04 Please describe who exactly your startup’s product/service is aimed at serving. Who are the targeted beneficiaries?

Our products is aimed at serving my local community, my state, Nigeria and Africa . The target beneficiaries of our poultry meat are families, restaurants, hotels, caters, and frozen meat stores. The targeted beneficiaries of our poultry manure are the; Gardeners and local farmers.

There are other owners of poultry farm both small and large scale poultry farmers. But majority of the poultry farmers are profit oriented, conventional farmers. Their poultry farming are not organic and sustainable .

We also produce safe, nutritious, environment friendly organic poultry manures that is used by local farmers and gardeners to grow healthy, nutritious and high yield food and vegetables. What we eat have a big impact on our overall health outcome. Especially for children, that are in their growth and development stage. Organic poultry boasts a superior nutritional profile compared to its conventional counterparts. It is rich in essential vitamins and minerals such as vitamin E, omega-3 fatty acids, and antioxidants. Further more it has an advantage of promoting better growth and development especially for children, tissues repairs,healing and aging. Unlike conventionally raised poultry, organic poultry is free from harmful chemicals such as antibiotics, growth hormones, and synthetic pesticides. This ensures that consumers can enjoy poultry products that are pure, safe, and devoid of potentially harmful residues. Rufal farm is contributing to the good health and wellbeing goal by production of healthy , organic and nutritious poultry meat.

In rufal farm, we feed the chickens the right amount of needed nutrients and have a good waste management system management system that collects the chickens droppings and other poultry waste like feathers, which are converted to organic manures. Our good waste management system also contributes to sanitation, because it keeps the environment clean, reducing contamination and infections.

Rufal farm make use of sustainable feed sources which do not produce significant amounts of the greenhouse gas, methane, during digestion. Poultry production and waste by-products are linked to Ammonia, Nitrous oxide and methane emissions, and have an impact on global greenhouse gas emissions. We have a good waste collection and management system, thereby reducing the production of green house gases . Rufal farm uses zero chemicals and antibiotics which are toxic to animals and the environment. These causes loss of biodiversity and water contamination. Due to the high cost of solar. As startup we are trying to install it. But we make use of electrical energy more as power source than fossil fuel, there by reducing the amount of greenhouse gas emission. Through these processes, Rufal farm contributes to mitigation of climate change.

Rufal farm contributes to promoting life below water goal, through: Feeding our poultry the right amount feed, providing them with the right amount of nutrients needed, helps in producing poultry manure with the right proportion of nutrients. This prevents leaching of basic nutrients into the soil, depositing into water bodies which overtime will cause the eutrophication of the water and eventually death of the animals in the water. Using zero antibiotics and chemicals prevents their accumulation and contamination of water, which can be very detrimental to the environment and the plants and animals in water.

06.08 Justification for my startup

Poultry farming is common, sustainable organic poultry farming is not especially in my community. People are becoming more concerned about their health nowadays including what they eat. Organic poultry meat being safer, healthier and more nutritious have an advantage over the conventional poultry meat. This is what makes rufal poultry meat a high demand product in the community. The organic poultry manure is also safe, affordable and not toxic to human health, giving it an upper hand and higher demand than the chemical fertilisers available.

Other local poultry farmers are my main competitor, poultry meat stores that sells organic poultry meat they buy from farmers in other states. Local synthetic fertiliser companies. Our products being organic, safe, healthy, nutritious, clean, qualitative and affordable makes rufal farm products stand out from other competitors.
