Describe your project or startup in a few words
Dropoud is an app designed for students on Nigerian campuses, aiming to enhance their academic performance. It allows students to revisit video recordings of their lecturers and tutors, which can be particularly useful while revising for exams.
01.01 Describe your startup in more detail
Dropoud, powered by Firsta Technologies, is designed to enhance academic performance by providing a platform where tutors and lecturers publish video explanations of their topics for the semester. Students can use these videos for better study and revision, even saving them for offline viewing within the app. The app charges students NGN40 per video view, with 70% of the proceeds going to the content creator and 30% to Dropoud for system maintenance. To manage transactions, the app features a wallet that students can fund. For user safety, the first three minutes of each video are free, allowing students to assess the content before incurring any charges. Additionally, to protect the content creators, video sharing outside the app is prohibited.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
Bringing learning to students at their own pace, Dropoud enhances understanding by allowing students to listen to their lecturers repeatedly. This benefits both fast and slow learners, improving overall academic performance. During examination periods, students often struggle to find course materials. Our system addresses this by providing easy access to essential resources. Additionally, students who miss classes for legitimate reasons can catch up by listening to their lecturers on Dropoud. Our platform also welcomes content creators who are experts in their fields, though we prioritize and reward lecturers. Verified lecturers receive a blue check on their profiles, ensuring credibility and recognition
01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your startup provides (at least 3).
The main benefit of using our app is that students can listen to lectures on specific topics multiple times and at their own pace. Videos can be saved for offline viewing, providing students with the convenience of accessing the material without needing an internet connection.

Our system targets campuses and tertiary institutions in Nigeria. It includes a student-end mobile app that can be installed on mobile devices, designed primarily for student use. Additionally, there is a lecturer/tutor-end web app for lecturers to manage their content and earnings.

In the beginning our project we intended to provide the content that users were going to consume. So at the time I had to work with other team members who gather contents and organize other aspect of the project while I focus on developing the technologies and platforms. The other co-founders are Victory Sunday Chinedum and Eche Floyd. Victory Sunday Chinedum is a computer science student in University of Calabar, Calabar. He was instrumental in organizing the content in the initial version of the app untill when we decided to have lecturers and tutors to provide their own content. His dedication to the project has helped shape the vision of the project and pushed it to the stage we are right now. Eche Floyd on the other hand is a Medicine and Surgery student of same University of Calabar and was equally instrumental in organizing contents and content owners to provide the app with the first set of videos and help present the vision to the first set of users we had

06.08 Justification for my startup
Our project idea is very innovative, there is no product out there that allows students view lectures from lecturers or tutors in their own university as we speak The similar to what we do system will be popular systems like Youtube and the likes, but with our solution we target video content for specific campus. The tutorial you will find on youtube for your course is random and may not be in line with what you need to study for your exams in your school. But with Dropoud you have access to contents from your campus on the subject you want to study. You also have access to contents on the subject matter from other campuses if you wish to have a broader perspective
06.09 Competitive Analysis
The main competitors that are doing close to what we do is platforms like Youtube, Zoom, and the likes. These systems can help tutors to share content with students but is not targeted for students in universities and the content in those systems does not follow the academic curriculum of those universities. Our app on the other hand is targeted for tutors to share content relevant and in line with the academic curriculum of the institution they identify with.
