Mother and Child Health Project is a youth-led initiative focused on raising awareness on maternal and child health towards mitigating maternal and child mortality rate.

01.01 Describe your startup in more detail

Mother and Child Health Project is a youth-led initiative and organization. Beyond an organization, it’s a community of passionate youths championing maternal and child health. The initiative was established in May, 2022 and have empowered over 600 women and youths since 2022 with knowledge and material resources to improve the well-being of mothers, women of child bearing age and children in communities. The mission of this initiative is to improve the knowledge and perception of the society on maternal and child health and with a vision to build a world where mothers and children are living healthily and have quality lives. Mother and Child Health Project objective is to raise awareness on maternal and child health towards mitigating maternal and child mortality rate.

High Maternal and Child Mortality Rate Poor accessibility to maternal and child health resources Poor health seeking behaviors of pregnant women, nursing mothers living in underserved communities.

At the Mother & Child Health Project, one of our initiative is to end Period Poverty in high school girls and also provide adequate knowledge on sexual and reproductive health, a gap in the high school curriculum system. In addition, we make provision for sanitary pads and diapers to women living in underserved communities.

We are empowering women with skills to support economic growth. Community Outreach Project: This involves educating women in local, remote, rural communities on maternal and child health. This also involves providing free medical screening such a blood pressure screening, blood sugar level test, Vital signs e.g Body Mass Index, maternal mental health screening, etc. This also involves provision of free maternal and child health resources such as sanitary pads and napkins, diapers, baby wipes, lotions, food items etc to support the well-being of the mother and child. This also involves training of traditional birth attendants TBAs on the recent and best practices of delivery and care for the mother and child.
