Describe your project or startup in a few words
Iyewo offers a subscription-based primary care through an optimized mix of clinic, telemedicine and home/ community care leveraging technology to expand access to quality health service.
01.01 Describe your startup in more detail
Iyewo is a subscription based primary health care service that provides care through an optimized mix of clinic, telemedicine and home/ community care leveraging technology to expand access to quality health service.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
The lack of accessible primary healthcare in underserved communities leads to delayed diagnoses, untreated chronic conditions, and avoidable hospitalizations. This results in poorer health outcomes, increased financial burden on individuals and families in the informal sector, and a greater strain on the healthcare system as a whole.
01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your startup provides (at least 3).
Iyewo's subscription-based primary care model seamlessly integrates clinic visits, telemedicine consultations, home, and group community care to provide comprehensive healthcare services. Here's how it works: Accessibility: Through a digital platform, patients can complete doctors’ visits, get answers to pressing questions and keep in touch with healthcare handler, thereby improving their access to care. Affordability: Iyewo’s health wallet serves as a dedicated health savings account for microsavings which leverages local thrift culture to ease financial burden for planned and unplanned health expenses. Accomodation & Acceptability: Iyewo is using community health extension workers who understand local sub-culture to take healthcare to patients, so as to accommodate their lifestyle and schedule. We emphasize preventive care through personalized care plans and medication delivery.
01.04 Please describe who exactly your startup’s product/service is aimed at serving. Who are the targeted beneficiaries?
People in the informal sector who are in the market 6 days a week, 10-12 hours each day preoccupied with their daily earnings to provide daily needs for their families. They are either located far from health facilities, or the accessible facilities are over crowded, under staffed and still expensive. Many of these people not only fall into the “unbanked” but also mostly under the poverty line, making healthcare a non priority till catastrophic events ensue. Many of these people are market traders, artisans, freelancers or self employed persons who are not covered by traditional health insurance in Nigeria where penetration is less than 10% of the population.

While we have a lot of healthtech startups in Nigeria already, very few of them serves the underserved and are built in a way that allows daily earners to save towards their healthcare. Iyewo is an improvement on what exists.
06.09 Competitive Analysis
Our competitors are Health tech startups Private Hospitals Public Hospitals Local drug stores Unlike many healthcare providers that focus solely on clinic-based services, Iyewo combines clinical care with community health initiatives and a financial tool (the health savings wallet). This comprehensive approach addresses not just immediate health needs but also underlying social determinants of health and financial barriers to care.
