Describe your project or startup in a few words
UPCYCLA tackles the problem of plastic pollution and carbon emissions by transforming plastic waste into useful lubricant grease that is suitable for general-purpose automotive and industrial applications.
01.01 Describe your startup in more detail
Plastic pollution is a major environmental problem. It is estimated that over 400 million tons of plastic waste are generated globally and only 9% are recycled. The remaining materials end up in landfills, and oceans, with negative consequences on people and the planet. Our solution is a sustainable and efficient Chemical Upcycling Technology that transforms plastic waste into useful general-purpose grease suitable for major automotive and industrial applications. Here is how it works: Through our collection centers, we receive plastic waste from registered individuals and groups in exchange for rewards. We then sort and reduce the size of the plastic materials. Afterward, we place the plastic waste material and other additives into a reactor based on our unique formulation for selective and targeted reactions to make grease. The finished product is then distributed to our clients in the automotive and manufacturing industries.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
The main problem we are trying to solve is plastic pollution. Plastic waste production has seen an explosive rise, with estimates suggesting over 400 million tons produced globally each year. This staggering amount poses a significant challenge, as only around 9% of plastic gets recycled. The remaining plastic ends up in landfills, burnt, or worse - our oceans. The consequences of plastic pollution are far-reaching. It contributes to carbon emissions, resource depletion, and air pollution. Marine life faces a constant threat from entanglement and ingestion of plastic debris. Plastic pollution also has significant economic and social implications. Tourism industries suffer, and microplastics raise concerns about potential impacts on human health. At UPCYCLA Technologies, we are committed to building a circular economy for plastic waste through the Plastic2Grease project. The aim is to eliminate plastic waste through upcycling to ensure a healthier planet for generations to come.
01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your startup provides (at least 3).
1. Eco-friendly: for every 5000 kilograms of grease sold, over 50 kilograms of plastic waste is used up; preventing the emission of over 470 kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent. 2. Affordability: through our innovative upcycling process, we have been able to make our grease to be available at competitive rates for every prospective customer. 3. Excellent Quality: UPCYCLA GREASE is suitable for general purpose automotive and industrial applications and provides lubrication over wide operating temperature range, good resistance to water washout , extra protection against rust and corrosion, excellent structural stability.
