Describe your project or startup in a few words

My name is Akintoye Olamilekan, my project has been in existence under 3 years now, which is fish farming and it is a sustainable and lucrative business, but that does not mean it doesn't have it own challenges. Which i may explain in future.

01.01 Describe your startup in more detail

My startup business is fish farming, is a business that is lucrative and profitable if when practice well, because, fish farming require "technical know how" i.e(to understand some things right before going into the business) as to minimize cost and to avoid wastage of resources, as someone that has been in the business under 3years now, i can handle fish farming from the point of pond construction to the point of selling the fish. However, fish farming is a type of business that doesn't go off season, it serve all year round if suitable land is selected for the production, because that is the first step if a farmer want better yield at the end of the production, with the assurance that pond (fish farming business) can serve all year round it gives the farmer joy that whether we are in raining or drying season production continues(only if the right land is procured for the pond construction as said earlier),fish farming is a renewable and sustainable practice.

01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?

Fish farming have it's own problems, but, the main problem i will like to solve is seedling collection. I will be interested in seedling collection(fingerlings, juvenile, post juvenile, jumbo e. t .c) , this is where wastage of resources and loss of cost of production comes in, if care is not taken, because we have farmers that have low or no experience about seedling, and when they get seedling from fish hatcher the seedling maybe runt or infected seedling but they won't be able to identify it, but, if they are educated on it, it won't be a problem for them. I will be interest in solving seedling collection for farmer, by educating them on how to identify runt and infected seedlings, because it will help them to avoid wastage of resources (money, feed, time and even stress), if good seedling is procure there is assurance of good yield at the end of production. There are other problems that is attached to fish farming but seedling is very important to be taken of.

01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your startup provides (at least 3).

The major benefit of fish farming is that it serves large number of people in the country. 1)by providing protein, of which protein is very essential to human body from young age to old age.

01.04 Please describe who exactly your startup’s product/service is aimed at serving. Who are the targeted beneficiaries?

My startup product aimed at serving the populace, because almost everybody in this country eat fish and in percentage, we have about 90% of people that consume fish and people eat fish everyday . fish and fish product are consumed as food all over the world ,because fish is a global product that provide high quality protein of about 14-16% of animal protein consumed.

Other owners within my startup have experience and they are skilled , in fact , we have some people among us that are very skilled when it comes to fish production , likewise there are some people that lack some basic knowledge when they started but along the line they learn from the well experience people among us and they are now doing better.

The reason for my answer above, is because agriculture at large is an industry that provide food, employment, and shelter for people especially fish farming, we have so many unit in fish farming . There are some people that venture into fish processing ,some are into fish hatching while some are into pond construction. And all these unit fetch money into people`s pocket, because they will definitely be needed when talking of fish farming, and of which when practice well and done well it ENDS POVERTY.

Reason for my above answer ,is because agriculture at large is an industry that carter for food production and anybody that find his/herself in agriculture industry and especially in fish farming will automatically won`t go to bed with empty stomach, because fish farming is business that put food on the people`s table. we have so many areas in fish farming ,we have feed production unit, hatching unit, pond construction unit, and fish harvesting unit. so, if anybody find his/herself in any of these units and the person is ready to work it will definitely put food on the person`s table of which the person won`t go hungry.

Yes, it indeed contribute to education goal, Fisheries or Aquaculture stand as a course of study that teaches how to breed fish, construct pond for rearing of fish, stocking density etc. fisheries or aquaculture is a self reliance job that put food on the table before securing the WHITE COLA JOB, even without securing the white col a job one can still be doing fine and it can still be pass down to the next generation. And all this can be achieve only if adequate education is obtained.

Yes, my startup ensures clean water and proper sanitation, as a matter of fact fish needs clean water for their growth, because if water is not clean enough it will affect their growth which may result to what we call RUNT in fishery . And also there is proper sanitation practice , because if there is not proper sanitation on farm, it may introduce rodent which will bring another expenses on chasing rodent away from farm, and if rodent are not been chase away it may cause contamination of fish feed which may result to feed poising and can kill fishes.

No, i disagree on this, because expect are still working on that, fisheries uses fuel for transportation of fishes and fuel price somehow affect our income which makes it not affordable enough. Food systems depend on large quantities of energy, particularly fossil fuels, for their productivity and are responsible for one-third of global anthropogenic greenhouse gas which makes it not clean enough.

Yes, because fishes lives inside water and water act as climate control ,for instance,part of fossil fuel been produced by motors are absorbed by these water where fishes resides,which if is not been absorb by water it will cause serious problem to the planet earth.

Yes, it definitely contribute to life below water, because fishes live inside water and there are other creature below water which they act as a life saver for fish and they act as symbiosis in nature i.e without fish they can't survive and without they too fish can't survive ,plant for example ,they are below water for some reasons for fishes to live well under water.

Yes it does, even in the construction of ponds ,one have to study the use of land,so that land will not be dung in such a way that it will encourage land degradation or desertification, and fish farming is surely a sustainable practice.

Of course, a farmer that lives around people should be seeing as small God (am sorry I used the word God to qualify human being) because, farmer feed the nation ,once we have a farmer in our midst there hunger will garnish,and if food is not a problem to all there will be peaceful environment and proper justice will emerge.

06.08 Justification for my startup

What someone like me want is that fish like catfish should be what everybody can afford be it smoked or live catfish. And,I want to produce my smoked fish in such a way that it will be neat,totally fee of stone and gut free,and all these will come with little amount where everyone will eat quality fish with little amount with them.

06.09 Competitive Analysis

I have so many competitors around me,but, what makes me different from them is my sincerity and honesty , because my customers always enjoy my services and products, because they make order for my product( fish), I get it delivered to them within few seconds and they get exactly what they ordered for,and this make them to refer me to other people they need or they feel like they will need my products or services.And this is helping me a lot because through that I have so many customers that will prefer they wait till my products id available than to go to other places.
