dDOCTOR OF BABIEs is a medical company that operates with medical outreaches to reduce sickle cell disease in Nigeria by community awareness, genetic counselling, prenatal diagnosis, support for people leaving with sickle cell disease.

01.01 Describe your startup in more detail

This company project requires regular organisation of medical outreaches across the country at the community levels. The company have come to realise that in other to reduce the rise in people with sickle cell more community awareness on the subject must be organised. Awareness will include encouraging people to know their genotype, do their genotype for them for free and counsel the appropriately based on the result. Premarital counselling at the community level with support and other medical activities. The company will have to involve primary health centers to ensure that mothers married with the risk of having a baby with sickle cell disease are fully folllowed up and connected sponsored to do prenatal diagnosis and counselling. Support are also provided to mothers with sickle cell disease to ensure they leave a fruitful life. At the advance stage the company will create a network of people leaving with sickle cell in Nigeria and those that need the most advance care.

01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?

REDUCING THE BURDEN OF PEOPLE LEAVING WITH SICKLE CELL DISEASE. As a medical Doctor and a paediatrician and having being in the hospital setting. I have come to realise that persistent increase in the numbers of patients leaving with sickle cell disease can only be halted when we involve the communities. The communities need to be aware of the prevention mechanisms, the community need to understand the important of premarital counselling and all members know their genotype. Genotype testing should also be incorporated into the requirements for school entries to help to also support members leaving with it. However, the ultimate aim of this company is to work with all the mechanisms available to make genetic informations available free to citizens, by reaching out to them. Pregnant women must be encourage on prenatal diagnosis, and care available for babies to be born with sickle cell disease. Mother need to know the options of cars available and the supports available for good life.

1. Awareness on Genotype Testing: Community awareness on genotype testing and premarital counselling have been seen to be the major instrument in this company. When intending couples know their genotypes and the risk of the crossmatch adequate counselling will be done. 2. Prenatal diagnosis Feee prenatal diagnosis mush be done to help create and atmosphere of awareness and preparedness for the mother and the various option of care. 3. Support for peole leaving with sickle cell. People leaving with sickle cell must well suported to ensure and happy and productive life in term of blood drive and available medical services.
