Describe your project or startup in a few words

Onameya Micro Industrial Park's (OMIP) aim is to address social problems in its and surrounding villages through various initiatives to meet Namibia and Global goals for Vision 2030 and beyond.

01.01 Describe your startup in more detail

OMIP got its land from the Ondonga Traditional Authority in 2022, cleaning and fencing took place the same year. In September 2023, clay bricks were made using resources from our plot. In November 2023, we started with the construction and completed in March 2024. Currently, OMIP has a functional community library which aims to promote reading culture, share information and resources, encourage community members to be active, and help our government address some matters in society. In future, OMIP will build a bigger library, and cooperate with different institutions and communities. Libraries have evolved from conventional book storage to embrace technology and the digital era. For the bigger library, I look forward to electrifying it and having computers and Wi-Fi connections. A laboratory and factory for testing and processing traditional products will be added too. When fully developed, OMIP will be able to sustain itself.

01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?

Inequality: For long rural areas have received few support in matters that can help transform settlement and increase the living standards of people. Communities: Rural areas have limiting habits that must be addressed early for a better future generation. Culture preservation: Through testing and processing, local products will be enjoyed by everyone. Community development: Uplifting community status

The library targets young people (learners, students and young professionals) to read, research and reference without being bothered by conditions at home. Generally, this startup targets people of all ages.

Although libraries have been in operation for a long time, the location of OMIP and its support for sustainable development goals make it unique.

My main competitors are local schools. What makes OMIP stand out is that open to all community members and the library can be accessed in weekends.
