Kambatutu SolarCharge Station is an initiative aimed at providing sustainable and affordable energy solutions to rural communities in Namibia. The solar-powered stations, equipped with high-capacity battery storage systems, are strategically located at local cuca shops in villages that lack access to electricity. These stations offer convenient charging facilities for portable devices, primarily mobile phones and LED lights, which are essential for communication and daily activities. By harnessing solar energy and storing it in batteries, Kambatutu SolarCharge Station ensures a reliable and eco-friendly power source, available even during cloudy days and nighttime, reducing the need for long distant charging points. This project not only addresses the immediate need for accessible energy but also promotes renewable energy and environmental sustainability. Additionally, it provides training and job opportunities to local residents, for managing and maintaining the stations.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
The main problem Kambatutu SolarCharge Station aims to solve is the lack of accessible and affordable energy in rural communities of Namibia especially the northern and northeastern regions. In these areas, residents often travel long distances to charge essential devices like mobile phones and LED lights due to the absence of electricity. This situation not only take up their important time and putting them at risks of predators but also limits connectivity and access to critical information and services. This initiative generally addresses the immediate energy needs of the community while promoting the adoption of renewable energy and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. Additionally, the project promotes local economic development through partnerships with businesses and the creation of training and job opportunities for residents.

Safety and Security: By eliminating the need for residents to walk long distances of up to approximately 25 km to charge their devices, especially in remote areas prone to risks from predators, the stations enhance community safety. 2. Convenience and Time Savings: Offering accessible charging points within villages reduces travel time and effort for residents, allowing them to allocate more time to productive activities or rest. 3. Sustainability and Cost Efficiency: Harnessing solar energy for charging reduces reliance on costly and environmentally harmful alternatives like traditional fuel sources, promoting long-term sustainability and cost savings for users. 4. Economic and Community Development: Through partnerships with local businesses, it stimulates economic growth within the community. Additionally, offering training and job opportunities to local residents, empower them to manage and maintain the stations.

Kambatutu SolarCharge Station aims to serve rural communities in Namibia, those in northern and northern east regions, who lack access to electricity. The targeted beneficiaries include all villagers, both men, women and children, who currently face challenges in accessing essential services due to the remote location. By providing convenient, solar-powered charging stations for mobile phones and LED lights, it empowers these communities with improved connectivity, safety, and economic opportunities.

Currently, I am the sole owner of the startup. My background includes expertise in electrical power engineering, alongside experience in teaching mathematics and physical sciences. Growing up in rural Namibia has provided firsthand insights into community challenges, particularly regarding energy access. My entrepreneurial drive is fueled by a passion for sustainable development and innovation. As the venture progresses, I plan to expand the team with individuals possessing complementary skills in business development, technology integration, and community engagement to strengthen operational effectiveness and impact.
