Boy Child Character Building, an initiative by Health Innovation Hub aimed at lowering the high suicide rates amongst men in Namibia through camps and festival to foster personal, talent & business development, resilience, financial literacy.

01.01 Describe your startup in more detail

During 5 days camps, the participants engage in facilitation that promotes self awareness, accountability, resilience, business ideation and pitch training. This camp is designed to empower young Namibian boys aged 15 to 20 with essential life skills, values, resilience, and a sense of responsibility. We equip participants with leadership skills, decision making abilities and effective communication to prepare them for leadership roles in their future endeavors. Promote a healthy lifestyle physical fitness, and mental well-being through sports and wellness programs. Foster the spirit of teamwork and collaboration through various activities and challenges that require group cooperation.

01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?

In an effort to identify current public health concerns and bridge gaps within the public health sector

1. Empowers a Namibian boy child in terms of self awareness, financial literacy, talent & business development. 2. Capacitate the participants with leadership, in their own personal lives, & in immediate surroundings/ communities as well as to be able to contribute to the innovation scale of our country and most importantly give a chance for participants to partake in the contribution to the SDG 3. Opportunities are given in accordance to individual interests, therefore participants & alumni are supported throughout their growth in life and there are mentors at every regional level ensuring there Is a continuous link and communication to / with the alumni within their constituencies.

Males aged 15 - 20 is the target market. This is because the common cause of death amongst young males in Namibia is by suicide.

By empowering the Namibian boy through business and talent development they get to be able to be providers as this was one of the research based evidence we got that the inability to provide & sustain is one of the major contributions of poverty engulfing households, additionally GBV tends to be another contributing factor for poverty and by developing the characters of these young males, they get to take better care of the women in society which creates a prosperous community that lives in harmony and flourish to the best. Additionally by educating young males in leadership, they’ll get to gain knowledge about problem solving & decision making .

On the list of must & non negotiable facilitators for the boy child character building camps, is the topic of agriculture and food waste management, we create a platform where the boys angage fully and get to understand the importance of gaining basic skills in agriculture towards the agenda of zero hunger, and the opportunities that are there I’m terms of assistance when one does embark on the journey. The subject is discussed in an elementary level making it comprehensible and less complex in order to create a perspective of it’s possibility. And most importantly including innovation in terms of sustainable agriculture .
