Jav is a mobile app that enhances Kenya's matatu commuting by providing real-time updates on routes, fares, and schedules. It improves convenience, efficiency, and safety for commuters while optimizing fleet management for matatu operators.

Jav is an innovative mobile application designed to enhance the matatu commuting experience in Nairobi. It addresses key challenges such as lack of information, long wait times, and irregular timelines. Jav provides a centralized platform that aggregates data from various matatu saccos, offering real-time updates on routes, fares, schedules, and matatu availability. Key features include an interactive map displaying boarding stages and routes, real-time tracking of matatu locations using GPS data, and personalized navigation for users. Additional functionalities include user reviews and ratings, fare information and alerts, and proximity alerts for approaching matatus. By delivering comprehensive, real-time information, Jav aims to improve efficiency, convenience, and safety for commuters, empowering them to make informed decisions and reducing travel-related stress. Our goal is to revolutionize urban mobility in Nairobi and potentially expand to other cities facing similar challenges

01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?

JAV addresses critical challenges in Nairobi's matatu transport system: 1. Difficulty Finding Locations: Commuters often struggle to find exact boarding and alighting locations, causing inconvenience and delays. 2. Lack of Information and Transparency: There is no centralized system providing real-time updates on matatu routes, numbers, and destinations served. Additionally, commuters lack clear information on fare rates and are unaware of available matatu stages nearby. 3. Unpredictability and Inefficiency: Matatus do not operate on fixed schedules, leading to unpredictable travel times. Long waiting times in queues before matatu trips commence result in unnecessary delays. 4. Traffic Congestion: Commuters lack information about real-time traffic conditions on routes, exacerbating heavy traffic congestion, especially during peak hours. By addressing these problems, JAV aims to make the matatu commuting experience more predictable, efficient, and user-friendly.

Key characteristics of our target audience include being tech-savvy, valuing convenience, seeking budget-friendly options, and prioritizing safety. Jav aims to enhance their commuting experience by providing real-time updates, route information, fare estimates, and safety features, making their journeys efficient, cost-effective, and stress-free. This can be scaled up to include the entire country i.e. in cities like Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret and the country at large.
