DHARURA is an emergency mobile application in Kenya that will enable one to request for an ambulance, fire engine, cab, the nearest police patrol, book a doctor’s appointment and lab test, request for a nurse visit, order for prescribed medicine.

01.01 Describe your project in more detail

The user downloads the free app signs in their basic information, their health insurance details, and fills in a medical questionnaire that will be saved in our EHR Software, Electronic Health Record, to help the paramedics and the doctor on call know more about your medical history in case of a health emergency.Drivers will be equipped with smartphones and Google maps, with the exact location of pickup and directions that account for traffic. In case of an emergency, the user clicks on the application and a pop-up appears, asking if you are in an emergency or want to report one. If you click yes on any of the questions, the application then asks you to choose your emergency type by making you select between an ambulance, fire engine, police patrol, or talk to a doctor. The app then sends your location and contact information to the nearest service provider based on your selection, you are given an estimated time of arrival and more information about the team coming to your aid.

01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?

Reporting a fire, calling for police or getting to a hospital for a medical emergency can be a nightmare in Kenya’s capital. Ambulances, most of which are run by private companies, take an average two hours to arrive. The problem isn’t that there aren’t enough ambulances or emergency clinics. Nairobi has 20 emergency rooms and clinics, as well as at least 100 ambulances in operation in the city of about 3 million—well above the rate the World Health Organization recommends of 1 ambulance per 50,000 people. Patients have to go through a tortuous process of calling a police dispatcher who connects them to an ambulance company or a fire engine depending on their emergency or calling individual private companies until they find one. The police emergency number often doesn’t work. Without navigation systems, ambulance drivers easily get lost. DHARURA comes in to solve this problem.

01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your project intends to provide (at least 3).

We at DHARURA understand that during certain emergencies one may find it difficult to reach his/her phone and with that in mind, the application will have a voice recognition feature that will give the user power through unique emergency codes set by the user for each emergency to be able to utter the code thus triggering the application on the phone which will automatically send a request to the nearest service provider based on the emergency. DHARURA also allows one to be able to report an emergency on behalf of others as well as order medicine for their loved once after uploading the prescription. With DHARURA on your phone, one will have it all from not only emergency services but one can also request a cab With an inbuilt EHR software, when one request for an ambulance, or nurse visit, DHARURA will be able to; • Provide access to comprehensive, current, accurate client information at the point of care for the service providers

Dharura represents an extension of existing emergency services by offering a more accessible, cost-effective, efficient, and transparent alternative to traditional ambulance services. It addresses a demand for timely and reliable emergency medical services that has not been fully satisfied by other services, making it a valuable addition to the range of emergency response options available to the community.

05.09 Who are your main potential competitors and what makes you stand out from them?

Flare: Flare is a Kenyan emergency response platform that connects users with emergency services, including ambulances and first responders. It offers similar services to Dharura, focusing on providing quick and efficient emergency response. Rescue.co: Rescue.co is another emergency response platform in Kenya that offers services such as ambulance dispatch, roadside assistance, and emergency medical consultations. It competes with Dharura in providing timely and reliable emergency services. Maisha Meds: While not a direct competitor in the emergency services sector, Maisha Meds is a Kenyan health tech company that provides access to affordable healthcare products and services. It addresses healthcare needs, which could overlap with emergency service demands. Dharura's specialized focus on emergency services, use of technology and innovation, affordability and transparency, and community engagement are key factors that differentiate it from its competitors in Kenya.
