Describe your project or startup in a few words

My project is aimed at getting rid of all used tires from the open environment and turning them to useful and innovative products that are integrated back to the environment offering a Greener Solution .

01.01 Describe your project in more detail

Recycling of used tires is the process of collecting tires that have been disposed off and are no longer in use and turning this to useful products . The process involves washing the tires , putting them into a grinder which turns the tires to different crumb sizes ,they are then put on a vibrating table which removes steel wires through a magnet and separates the different crumbs by size. The rubber crumbs are mixed with colours and a binder in a mixer . They are then put into plastic moulds for all desired shapes and compressed together to make blocks and tiles . This process does not release any fumes to the atmosphere and there are no waste products ..

01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?

It is estimated about 34000 tonnes of used tires have been burned upharzadly or disposed in ways that are very harmful to our natural environment . and this tires are accumulating yearly due to the increase of vehicles on our roads . Tires are made from materials that would take up to 100 years to decompose and assimilate into the environment . making them very hard to dispose or get rid of . Most of this tires end up in ditches . roadsides . dumps and yards .. Tires are highly flammable and have been known to cause fires that take weeks to put out .

01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your project intends to provide (at least 3).

1.Our products are environmental friendly and made from recycled materials . . 2.our paving tiles are lightweight and very easy to install not requiring any special machinery or extra care . 3. Our products make playgrounds and track fields safe by reducing injuries and sliding accidents even during extreme weather.

01.04 Please describe who exactly your project is aimed at serving. Who are the targeted beneficiaries?

1. Schools and institutions : paving blocks made from recycled tires are safe for children playgrounds an sidewalks . they have good traction and don't cause wear and tear on shoe souls. They don't cause injuries in case of a fall or during play . They don't cause dust or accumulate mud . They are very easy and cheap to maintain . 2.Gyms .Offices and Classes . Floor tiles and carpets made from recycled tires are very good ,they protect the floor from constant use because they are good shock absorbers and very durable .. They can be produced into different sizes ,shapes and colour for comfort and distinction . 3.Local Government and Contractors, The paving blocks made from recycled tires are durable and very safe to use on general roads and Estates . Recycled Tire crumbs are also used to make speed bumps on roads .

We will be getting them at a price earning income to people who can collect . We also aim to offer employment thus earning income to our community .

Scrap tires mostly end up in pits and large land fills which mostly end up catching fire and spreading to forests and human settlements .

During unrest people burn tires on the roads to block traffick . since tires tend to burn for long and with a huge smoke . My project is aiming at doing street cleanups and public awareness on tire recycling as the best method to discard tires .. And giving way to more peaceful ways of having there voices heard .

The products I envision creating are unique and very innovative because they are made from scrap tire a material that is waste. Creating products that solve all problems within our current market .

05.09 Who are your main potential competitors and what makes you stand out from them?

1.cement and sand paving blocks . This blocks are fragile heavy and require machines to move and transport While our paving blocks are very lightweight and easy to transport and install . This blocks have a rough surface that causes shoes to wear out and also causes injuries incase of a fall While our blocks are fluffy and offer good traction with no injuries because they are good shock absorbers . 2.Recycled plastic blocks. This blocks are not good for the environment because they release microplastics into the air causing diseases While our blocks are made from natural rubber recycled from tires . Plastic blocks tend to lose there traction becoming smooth with time and causing injuries while our blocks are made from rubber crumbs making it safe and a good shock absorber .

10.06 Are you initiating actions within your community to promote the role of female entrepreneurs?

Yes . I am a member of DOTRISE CBO an organisation from Embakasi East constituency . one of our main objectives and the theme for this year is the empowering of the girlchild . we help raise funds for female run businesses and build roadside stalls for businesses .
