Collection and recycling of waste tires to quality tiles, recreational surfaces. Waste tires are sites for mosquitoes and rodents breeding, they lead to wild fires and their uncontrolled open burning is harmful to human health and the environment.

01.01 Describe your project in more detail

Growing up as a young boy, I used to visit my Uncle's garage at the Kisumu Juakali "kamas" and I would witness the huge piles of used waste tires that through water trapping, these piles would act as breeding sites for rats and mosquitoes which would lead to higher cases of malaria of which some would be fatal. Wild fires was a common occurrence at 'kamas'. Through engagements with like-minded individuals and identification of potential recycling options for the waste tires. Waste tires have the potential of being recycled into tough quality tiles for construction that would significantly cut down on the pricing. It could also be used to make friendly surfaces especially for recreation facilities, crumps for use in the stadia, containers. The project will significantly reduce the piles of waste tires and through recycling create employment and livelihoods while offering eco friendly products and prevention of open waste tire burning that is detrimental to human health and environment.

01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?

The problem of waste tires that act as breeding sites for snakes, rodents and mosquitoes. Through recycling this will reduce malaria infections. Snake bites and diseases transmitted through rodents. The recycling tires will produce tiles that will cut down construction costs. Huge numbers of unemployed young people and women is another big problem.

Tiles from waste tires are stonger, do not break and are highly affordable. And will help in waste tire management.

Patrick has been a waste actors for more than 5 year, sharp and keen on circulatity of waste. Beryl has background in communication and special interest in waste tire recycling. Lynet is enterpreneural in making with a background in finance and community engagement. Sabastian is technical with background in welding and fabrication and is interested in recycling.
