Uduara addresses East Africa's severe waste management and environmental sustainability challenges by promoting the circular economy. With over 90 million tons of municipal solid waste generated annually and only 10% recycled, Uduara leverages technology to drive change. Our mobile app and USSD platform enable consumers to scan product codes for recycling information and rewards, while manufacturers ensure product traceability through blockchain integration. Uduara's innovative approach tackles the key issue of value loss post-use by assigning new value to used products & containers, encouraging people to collect and submit waste for points. Additionally, Uduara simplifies the process of returning waste by providing clear information on how and where to recycle. This system fosters transparency, inclusivity, and active participation, engaging all stakeholders from consumers to policy makers. Uduara’s data analytics dashboard offers insights into recycling behaviors & policy development

01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?

Uduara addresses critical waste management and environmental sustainability challenges in East Africa. The region generates over 90 million tons of municipal solid waste annually, with only 10% recycled. The main problems include: Value Loss Post-Use: People are not keen on recycling because the perceived value of products drops to nearly zero after use. Uduara creates a system where used products and containers retain new value, encouraging people to collect, submit, and earn rewards. Lack of Awareness: Only 4% of East Africans are aware of the circular economy and its benefits, hindering progress toward sustainability. Limited Recycling Options: There are insufficient facilities and options for recycling, leading to improper waste disposal. Submission Barriers: It is difficult for people to know how and where to return waste for recycling.
