Energy Generation From Waste_
Describe your project or startup in a few words
The objective of this project is to make waste/garbage useful by generating energy from it. This is to be achieved through methods like pyrolysis, gasification, combustion & anaerobic digestion.
01.01 Describe your project in more detail
One of the major problems facing urban centres in Kenya is waste management. Waste/garbage from dumpsites like Dandora in Nairobi, which is a nuisance, can be transitioned from bane to boon through being used as a source of energy. This will promote environmental conservation as well as help meet energy demands that keep rising Employment opportunities will also be created through this project
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
The main problems that this project tries to solve are: 1) Environmental degradation through making use of waste/garbage 2) Energy crisis, to ensure more energy is generated to meet the ever rising demand 3) Unemployment, to ensure that employment opportunities are created especially for the youth
01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your project intends to provide (at least 3).
The major product of this project is energy and its merits include: 1)Clean energy as the final energy form will be electricity which is eco-friendly 2)Cheap energy which will ensure more people can afford it 3) Sustainable energy which will ensure that energy be generated from waste to meet the present needs without compromising future generations' ability to meet their own needs
01.04 Please describe who exactly your project is aimed at serving. Who are the targeted beneficiaries?
The target group/beneficiaries of this project will be the energy consumers who rely on electricity for their day-to-day activities, by ensuring that they get an affordable and reliable energy, the youth who are currently struggling with unemployment problem to get employment opportunities through this project as well as the general public especially those living near dumpsites to have a clean and safer environment free from the encumbrance of gabbage

01.10 Which industry best describes your project?
a) Energy (equipment, services, sustainable energy and fuel)
02.01.01 My project contributes to the No poverty goal
5
02.01.02 No poverty - Justification
Even though this project will not end poverty entirely, it will help reduce the level through ensuring that people get access to affordable energy and unemployment problem is solved, especially for the youth, by being part of this project directly as employees or using the energy generated from this project to start their own small & medium scale enterprises
02.02.01 My project contributes to the Zero hunger goal
5
02.02.02 Zero hunger - Justification
One of the solutions to hunger problem/sustainable agriculture is mechanization of agricultural activities to maximize output. Mechanization means that machines be used in agricultural sector. These machines use power(energy) which will be our major product
02.03.01 My project contributes to the Good health and well-being goal
6
02.03.02 Good health and well-being - Justification
Gabbage/waste is a decomposing matter, it produces foul smelling gases that are harmful when inhaled. This is a major problem for people living near dumpsites. The pungent smell that emanates from these sites is an air pollutant. This project aims to reduce this problem by making use of this waste
02.04.01 My project contributes to the Quality education goal
5
02.04.02 Quality education - Justification
Most schools, especially public schools are not connected to electricity.Electricity is a key component as far as education quality is concerned.Quality education means incorporation of ICT services, all which need electricity to be powered. This project will be generating electricity for use in learning centres such as schools
02.05.01 My project contributes to the Gender equality goal
6
02.05.02 Gender equality - Justification
This project will have partners from different sectors, men and women. Through generation of affordable power, women will be able to start business enterprises.
02.06.01 My project contributes to the Clean water and sanitation goal
5
02.06.02 Clean water and sanitation - Justification
Gabbage is a water pollutant. This is the case with rivers in urban centres like Nairobi River. To reduce the amount of waste in water bodies by making it useful, this will be a step towards clean water and sanitation
02.07.01 My project contributes to the Affordable and clean energy goal
7 - Strongly Agree
02.07.02 Affordable and clean energy - Justification
Generating energy from waste, which is readily available will ensure that the energy generated is affordable and clean as the ultimate form of energy will be electricity, which is environmental friendly
02.08.01 My project contributes to the Decent work and economic growth
6
02.08.02 Decent work and economic growth - Justification
Generating energy from waste means more energy and this means more businesses can operate even during the night and this will have positive impact on the economy
02.09.01 My project contributes to the Industry innovation and infrastructure
5
02.09.02 Industry innovation and infrastructure - Justification
