Describe your project or startup in a few words
Soil Free Kitchen Farming offers an innovative way for residents to cultivate their own fruits, vegetables & herbs right in the comfort of their homes. With this business, it fosters a culture of self-sufficiency and environmental responsibility.
01.01 Describe your project in more detail
I am thrilled to present to you an entrepreneurial venture that not only promises to benefit our community but also embodies the spirit of innovation and sustainability. As aspiring businesswomen, I am excited to introduce Soil Free Kitchen Farming a solution aimed at providing our residents with convenient access to fresh, homegrown produce. It is a system based on hydroponics, growing without use of soil instead using substrates like perlite and rockwool. REQUIRED SYSTEM KIT: nutrient solution reservoir, growing trays, growing medium e.g. rockwool and perlite, nutrient solution, submersible water pump, timer, pH Testing Kit. PLANT SELECTION: Variety of herbs e.g. (mint, basil, cilantro), leafy green e.g. (lettuce, kales, spinach), small fruits e.g. (strawberries, cherry tomatoes). INSTALLATION AND SET-UP: Delivery and Assembly, setup of the system, planting of Selected Crops, instructional Session on Maintenance. This project includes customizable nutrient delivery&water efficiency
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
COMPARISON BETWEEN SOIL BASED AND SOIL FREE KITCHEN FARMING SOIL BASED Plants take time to grow Plants acquire nutrients through minerals in the soil No control of the amount and type of nutrients delivered to the plants. Require pesticides and herbicides SOIL FREE Plants grow relatively faster Plants acquire minerals through water based nutrient solution Has COMPLETE control over the amount and type of nutrients delivered to the plants. Safe from pests and weeds. The existing companies that deal in Hydroponics majorly install in large scale farms and are few and thus the need to introduce it through small scale in residential homes. Land constraints (due to limited arable land in urban areas), climate variability (impact of weather fluctuations bringing about inconsistent food production throughout the year), insufficient food security(dependence on imported food especially in urban areas with limited access to fresh produce), water scarcity, soil degradationandmore.
01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your project intends to provide (at least 3).
Empowerment Through Sustainability: By investing in our project we empower ourselves to take control of our food production, reducing reliance on external sources and promoting self-sufficiency. Community Health and Wellness: Fresh, homegrown produce is not only tastier but also more nutritious. With this project, we can promote healthier eating habits and improve the overall well-being of our community members. Environmental Stewardship: This project uses less water and space compared to traditional gardening methods, making them an eco-friendly choice. By adopting this technology, we contribute to environmental conservation efforts and reduce our carbon footprint. Creates employment i.e. us the founders. Increases yield thus value for money Aesthetic value i.e. makes the home and company scenery beautiful. Efficient and affordable method in residential homes as plants grow relatively faster and on concrete walls and floors. Space utilization & reduced pests and diseases pressure.
