A modern day waste management project that employs the circular economy concept. We focus on utilisation of waste from agricultural based industries and slaughter houses by turning it to protein rich chicken feed.

01.01 Describe your project in more detail

The project is being run by youth its aimed at ensuring we live in a hygienic environment by managing waste produced around us.we mainly deal with agriculture based factories in the ovacado ,wood and livestock industries. The waste collected here is then utilised by strategically using scientific concepts to turn it to useful products.Waste from ovacado factories and slaughter houses is used as substrate for the black soldiers flies larvae.After afew days the maggots are harvested,washed then dried.The dried maggot is then sold to poultry farmers in the community which is more affordable and nutritious than feed bought from the market. The waste product from the wood industries which is mainly sawdust is used as planting substrate for seedling propagation using the modern tray planting method as a substitute to cocopeat.waste from factories is also used in making bio gas for cooking.

01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?

Waste management has been a great hindrance to realising a clean environment, by managing the waste around us we look forward to have our rivers clean as well as the environment we live in the nutrion problem will also be solved as mushrooms and poultry are sources of protein.

01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your project intends to provide (at least 3).

Our rivers will have uncontaminated water.We also achieve food security as poultry farmers and mushroom gwowers will produce more poultry and mushrooms at affordable prices.we will also create job opportunities and stable sources of income this will reduce crime which is a major problem for us.

The project will serve the Muranga community as it will create jobs and ensure the environment is clean the youth in particular who are the largest age group are going to be directly involved.

The project employs scientific concepts that is the use of biotic factors which is the decomposers to produce animal feed.

Large manufacturers producing animal feed are the main competitors we stand out as we employ use of biotic factors to produce animal feed at competitive rates.
