01.01 Describe your project in more detail
Our project aims to develop innovative hybrid electric vehicles (EVs) that harness multiple renewable energy sources, specifically wind and solar power, to create sustainable and efficient transportation solutions. Equipped with compact vertical-axis wind turbines, these vehicles generate and store energy while in motion or parked, ensuring a continuous power supply and reducing reliance on external charging infrastructure and fossil fuels. Wind turbines seamlessly integrated into the vehicle design will maximize energy capture and efficiency, starting with TukTuks and expanding to other vehicle types. Targeting urban commuters, environmentally conscious consumers, and fleet operators, we aim to reduce costs and emissions. Starting with TukTuks, a popular mode of transport in Kenya and other developing regions, we will demonstrate the solution's viability and benefits, paving the way for broader adoption and promoting a cleaner, sustainable future.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
The main problem we aim to solve is the high cost and environmental impact of traditional fossil fuel-based transportation. With the increasing urgency to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change, there is a critical need for sustainable, efficient, and cost-effective transportation alternatives. Our project focuses on developing an innovative electric vehicle (EV) solution that leverages renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar power, to provide a greener alternative to conventional vehicles. This will address the issues of air pollution, dependency on fossil fuels, and the overall carbon footprint of transportation systems, making cleaner mobility accessible to a broader population.

Environmental Sustainability: Our electric vehicle solution significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions by utilizing renewable energy sources. This contributes to cleaner air and a reduction in the carbon footprint associated with transportation. Cost Efficiency: By integrating renewable energy, such as wind and solar power, to charge the EV, users can benefit from lower operating costs compared to traditional fossil fuel vehicles. Over time, this leads to substantial savings on fuel and maintenance expenses. Energy Independence: Our project promotes energy independence by reducing reliance on imported fossil fuels. This not only enhances energy security but also supports the growth of local renewable energy industries, fostering economic development and job creation.

He specializes in Product and Strategy, bringing over 8+ years of experience in creating innovative solutions tailored for low and middle-income families across Africa. Bernard Onyango: Is the founder of Iloop a cold storage and logistics startup who specializes in logistics and locally assembled cold storage units. He is part of the technical team and brings rich experience in local assembly and manufacturing. His company has the potential to be part of our early adopters Esther Waceke: She is a Graduate Electrical Engineer and will spear head the technical team.

Unlike existing electric vehicles, we incorporate a vertical-axis wind turbine within the vehicle structure to maximize energy capture and storage. By harnessing wind and solar power simultaneously, our EV extends range and reduces reliance on external charging, adaptable to diverse conditions. Providing a practical, affordable, and environmentally responsible option, our hybrid EV meets this need while advancing cleaner automotive technologies. Our main potential competitors will include established electric vehicle manufacturers such as Tesla, Nissan, and BYD, as well as companies developing renewable energy integration for vehicles like Lightyear and Sono Motors. We will stand out by uniquely focusing on integrating both wind and solar power into a compact hybrid electric vehicle, starting with Tuk Tuks. This dual-energy approach will maximize energy capture and extend vehicle range, making our solution more adaptable to diverse environments. Additionally, we will emphasize affordability and local manufacturing to ensure our vehicles are accessible to low-income communities and support local economies. Our innovative energy management systems, combined with IoT-enabled features for real-time monitoring and maintenance, will further enhance our vehicle's performance and user experience, setting us apart in the green transportation market.
