01.01 Describe your project in more detail
The SMC e-Motorbike powered by M-Anga is an innovative project to transform urban transportation in East Africa's Boda Boda industry. This initiative combines the advanced design of the SMC e-Motorbike, a durable and efficient electric motorcycle, with M-Anga's incentive program that rewards riders for energy-efficient behaviors. By switching to electric motorcycles, riders significantly reduce their carbon footprint, contributing to a cleaner environment. M-Anga's program encourages optimal charging, regular maintenance, and eco-friendly riding habits, offering rewards that can be redeemed for discounts on parts and services, thus lowering the cost of ownership. Additionally, riders participate in the Medal of Change process, gaining recognition and fostering a community focused on sustainability. This synergy promotes sustainable transportation and provides economic benefits and support.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
In Kenya, transitioning to electric motorcycles (Boda Bodas) and three-wheelers (Tuk Tuks) offers significant benefits like cost reduction and environmental impact. However, affordability, perception, and stigma continue to hinder adoption.
