The Haidy Foundation is a project aimed at equipping and empowering the first one thousand unskilled labourers in Nigeria by providing them with specialized training programs.
01.01 Describe your project in more detail
The Haidy Foundation is a for-profit and non-profit project aimed at equipping and empowering the first one thousand unskilled labourers in Nigeria by providing them with specialized training programs. Our primary objective is to partner with professionals in various fields such as Fashion Design, Hair-Dressing, Barbering, Photography, Mechanics, Welding, Catering, Culinary Arts, Carpentry, and Phone and laptop Repairers to offer training programs for the unemployed, underemployed, and unskilled workers in the country. We aim to provide these individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their respective fields and contribute to the growth and development of the country's workforce. To support our trainees, we offer daily meals and transportation services to ensure they can fully dedicate themselves to their training. Additionally, we facilitate the marketing and sales of products created by our trainees, providing them with monthly allowances for their efforts
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
Our skill acquisition project addresses the pressing challenges of unemployment, poverty, and hunger, and fostering sustainable communities. In Akwa Ibom state, Nigeria, the unemployment rate stands at a staggering 41.1%. Within my community, a startling 90% of young people and elderly women find themselves either unemployed or underemployed. The genesis of the Haidy Foundation springs from a painful personal experience: witnessing over 70 industrial and manual labourers lose their jobs when the company I worked for went bankruppt. Many of these individuals, primarily loaders and security personnel, were left adrift, unsure of their next steps. Recognizing the transformative power of skills and crafts, I envisioned a solution where these individuals could channel their talents into viable livelihoods. Thus, the Haidy Foundation was born with a clear mission: to equip young people, the elderly, and the middle class within our community with practical skills.
01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your project intends to provide (at least 3).
Haidy Foundation is born with a clear mission: to equip young people, the elderly, and the middle class within our community with practical skills and crafts such as tailoring, catering, hair braiding, carpentry, equipment repairs, fashion design, bead making, graphic design, and photography. Through targeted training programs, we aim to empower individuals to forge sustainable paths to economic independence and contribute meaningfully to the fabric of our society.
01.04 Please describe who exactly your project is aimed at serving. Who are the targeted beneficiaries?
Our project aims to empower young people aged 12 and above, the elderly, and middle-class members of our community through targeted training programs. Our goal is to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to establish sustainable paths to economic independence and make meaningful contributions to our society. We strongly believe in paying it forward, and thus, we encourage our program graduates to volunteer as trainers and pass on their knowledge and skills to others. This is a reflection of our commitment to social responsibility and collective progress.
