Empowering the Future: By equipping teens with knowledge and confidence, Plantastic Project cultivates a generation of passionate individuals ready to shape a secure and sustainable food system.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
Nigeria faces a double threat: a hungry population and a lack of young farmers. Traditional farming just doesn't appeal to teenagers. Plantastic Project tackles this. It makes agriculture exciting with modern greenhouses. Here, teenagers learn to grow their own food, becoming producers, not just consumers. This empowers a new generation of farmers, boosting food security and creating youth entrepreneurs. Plantastic Project is cultivating a future where Nigeria's food supply thrives.

02.05.01 My project contributes to the Gender equality goal
6
02.05.02 Gender equality - Justification
The project's focus on teenagers keeps it gender-neutral. There's no inherent limitation on girls participating and benefiting from the program. Why Gender Equality is Somewhat Addressed: Empowerment for All: By equipping teenagers with agricultural skills and knowledge, Plantastic empowers them regardless of gender. This can challenge traditional gender roles and create opportunities for girls to pursue careers in agriculture. Replication and Future Impact: The success of the project in promoting gender equality depends on its implementation. We intend for the project to be rolled out in a way that actively encourages girls participation (e.g., through targeted outreach or mentorship programs), its impact on SDG 5 can be significantly stronger.
02.06.01 My project contributes to the Clean water and sanitation goal
1 - Strongly Disagree
02.06.02 Clean water and sanitation - Justification
The Plantastic Project has a limited alignment with SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation). While the project itself doesn't directly address water issues, some aspects could be indirectly connected: Greenhouse technology: Certain greenhouse designs might utilize water-efficient irrigation systems like drip irrigation. If implemented effectively, this could promote more responsible water usage compared to traditional open-field farming.
02.07.01 My project contributes to the Affordable and clean energy goal
6
02.07.02 Affordable and clean energy - Justification
The Plantastic Project offers a solid foundation for incorporating clean energy practices. By strategically integrating solar power and education, the project will become a stronger advocate for SDG 7 and contribute to a more sustainable future for Nigerian agriculture. Solar Power for Greenhouses: Equipping greenhouses with solar panels can significantly reduce reliance on traditional grid-based electricity, often generated by fossil fuels. This promotes affordable and clean energy use. Solar Education: The project curriculum can be expanded to include basic training on solar power systems, their benefits, and potential applications in agriculture. This empowers teenagers to become advocates for clean energy solutions.

02.14.01 My project contributes to the Life below water goal
1 - Strongly Disagree
02.14.02 Life below water - Justification
The project's primary focus is on land-based agriculture using greenhouses. It doesn't directly address issues related to oceans, seas, or marine resources. In some cases, traditional open-field agriculture can contribute to water pollution through runoff of fertilizers and pesticides. Greenhouses, by using contained environments, have the potential to reduce this type of pollution. However, this indirect benefit is tenuous and depends heavily on the specific implementation of the greenhouse project. Therefore, the Plantastic Project has a negligible alignment with SDG 14. While greenhouse technology can offer some environmental benefits in general, these benefits don't directly target the health of our oceans and marine ecosystems.
02.15.01 My project contributes to the Life on land goal
1 - Strongly Disagree
02.15.02 Life on land - Justification
The Plantastic Project offers some potential benefits that could indirectly contribute to SDG 15. However, its primary focus lies outside the scope of this goal.

1 - Strongly Disagree
02.16.02 Peace justice and strong institutions - Justification
SDG 16 Focus: This goal promotes peaceful societies, strong institutions that deliver justice, and effective inclusion. It tackles issues like violence, corruption, and discrimination. Plantastic Project Focus: The project primarily addresses food security and youth empowerment through agricultural education. While agriculture can play a role in promoting peace and stability (e.g., reducing competition for resources), Plantastic doesn't directly target these aspects of SDG 16.
02.17.01 My project contributes to the Partnerships for the goal
7 - Strongly Agree
02.17.02 Partnerships for the goal - Justification
Yes, the Plantastic Project aligns well with SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals. Here's why, Goal 17 emphasizes multi-stakeholder partnerships: Plantastic Project could potentially involve partnerships between: Governmental agencies: Providing funding, educational resources, or land for greenhouses. Educational institutions: Integrating the project into school curriculums or offering after-school programs. Private sector companies: Donating supplies, expertise, or market access for selling produce. NGOs: Providing training, mentorship, or connections to agricultural resources. Goal 17 highlights capacity building: The project builds the capacity of teenagers by equipping them with agricultural skills, knowledge, and potentially entrepreneurial abilities. Goal 17 focuses on mobilizing resources: Plantastic could mobilize resources like funding, technology (greenhouse equipment), and expertise through partnerships.
