Describe your project or startup in a few words
OGV Limited is a company that is into rendering of solar drying services to smallholder farmers of perishable agricultural products across Nigeria.
01.01 Describe your project in more detail
OGV is a sustainable agriculture company that offers solar drying services and solar dryer sales and installation options to farmers, providing a cost-effective and efficient way to dry crops while reducing their carbon footprint. OGV is dedicated to advancing eco-friendly farming, minimizing inefficiencies, and bolstering the livelihoods of local agricultural communities.
01.02 What is the main problem you are trying to solve?
Nigeria suffers about 60 post-harvest losses annually in tomato production and other vegetables, stakeholders in the horticulture value chain have said. They said the losses and deficits recorded in value-chain, however, present opportunities for investment, which in turn will curb losses the country suffers yearly. The smallholder farmers in Nigeria suffer over 50% loss on their harvested agricultural products and this accrues to a loss in the Agricultural sector of Nigeria of over $9 billion.
01.03 Tell us the major benefits and/or advantages of using the product/service that your project intends to provide (at least 3).
1. Creation of 3,000 jobs for women and youths within my target communities. 2. Serving of up to 40,000 smallholder farmers in Nigeria. 3. Saving of 1,200,000Kg of perishable agricultural products from spoilage.
01.04 Please describe who exactly your project is aimed at serving. Who are the targeted beneficiaries?
My product is the solar drying technology, a device that is used to dry perishable agricultural products using solar PV systems and direct sunlight.
